Accessories from US to Canada
Accessories from US to Canada
Hi All,
I finally got my
Milano Red LX 5 Speed
two weeks ago after waiting 4 1/2 months. I will post photos on the Milano Red thread when I get a chance. Of course I want to get a few goodies such as keyless entry, alarm, floormats, bumper applique, and cargo tray.
As most of the Canucks know, Canadian pricing for accessories is simply crazy compared to US pricing (yes I am counting exchange). I can't seem to find a US online dealer that will ship directly to Canada.
I am considering using a mail forwarding service such as
http://www.myus.com/
or
http://www.usglobalmail.com/
to order from College Hills or Bernardi.
I figure when all is done including extra brokerage fees and possible taxes, I'll be at least $200 - $350 less then ordering from my dealer.
What I would like to know is
-Are there any US sites that will ship to Canada?
-How are the big items such as the cargo tray shipped, flat or rolled?
Thanks
Meterman

I ordered a BUNCH of acessories from Bernardi, and got them shipped to friend's place in the US. The cargo liner was rolled up. I placed a piece of plywood on top of it and it was flat the next day.
Shipping to Canada isn't the only problem, most sites don't accept Canadian credit cards either.
In any case, Hondacuraworld ships to Canada, where shipping = 10% of product value.

if you are in vancouver BC area, you can have your items shipped to Point Roberts in US (20 mins drive from van). They have a company there called The Letter Carrier there. You can have your items sent to them and pick it up there. They charge about $2US/package.
www.thelettercarrier.com
most of my stuff from US are picked up from there. You could save alot on shipping and custom fees.

FYI
I sent a note to HondaAcuraWorld.com to ask if they will carry the keyless entry and alarm. They just wrote back (fast repsonse) that they have just updated the site to list them!
Thanks for the help everybody!

UPDATE - My experince and the numbers...
To recap
I did purchase from HondaAcuraWorld
-all weather floormats,
-cargo mat,
-keyless entry and security
-bumper applique
and had it shipped to The Letter Carrier
I'm bored, so I though I'd share my experience here's what happend....
1. Phone your order in, I had lots of issues trying to order online with my Visa. If you try and the website coughs an "address error" or something like that STOP and phone them on the 800 number. The website has some security verification issues with a few Canadian banks' visas. They are very nice and patient on the phone, first class.
2. Shipping was free (small handling fee to ship to the US Point Roberts (the letter carrier)). The items were sent in 3 boxes shipped on different days by fedex so $6 to pickup. Strange but true, all you do is have it shipped there with your name on the box, and just show up when the tracking number says it arrived. Bring the tracking numbers and other info with you as they are a little disorganized.
1 tiny box was the applique
1 flat box was the floormats
1 big box had the cargo matt and electronics in it. (measures about 36"x9"x11")
3. Duty. Even though all the rubber parts are made in the US, expect an additional 4.5% duty on top of PST and GST (no nafta on those). The electronics are made in Japan. Be nice to the Canadian Customs people and tell them the total amount when you get to the window. That is when you are declaring your amount not when you go in to pay the duty. The big dude inside warned me on this cause I just said "400", when it was about $440 US. Print your bill if you do it online and bring it with you in case the one attached to your box is damaged.
Total
500 CAD for parts
89 Duty and tax (4.5 duty, 6 gst, 7 pst (BC))
114 transport (ferry from Victoria, we were planning on visiting friends in Vancouver anyway)
$671 CAD ($589 w/o ferry)
Total from Honda Dealer
723.78 + tax
817.87 with tax (13% pst gst)
Savings + a nice saturday drive in my shiney 5 speed fit with wife and month old angel of a baby daugher
$146 CAD
$260 CAD w/o the ferry for you mainlanders
If I had HondaAcuraWorld ship it direct to my address, it would have been $89 shipping from them (not free) + fedex brokerage fees (40?) + duty and tax.

They said it wasn't all Canadian Credit cards, just a few from some of the major banks. My experience was it didn't go through and the server gave an address verification error, I had even added "the letter carrier" as a delivery address with the card. So I tried several times modifying things like Rd to Road etc. The last time the server said the card was not approved.
What happend was the server opening a transaction and holding the money on the card each time I tried (like when you pay for dinner at a restarant and add a tip, the amount of the dinner is approved but not charged until after they close the transaction for the final amount). The transcation had not happened yet but the amount was still held. After 4 tries I hit my limit (I was buring up the plastic that month). HondaAcuraWorld said it had happened before.
I should have stopped after the first failed attempt but didn't understand what was happening. I should make it clear that I was not charged each time. After 5 days the approvals timed out. I actually ended up using my wife's card.
HondaAcuraWorld were very patient.
The installation of the Keyless and Alarm went ok, lots of time upside down under the dash. You need very nimble fingers.
