Still no fit

Man this sucks, I put a 1000 dollar deposit down for a blue fit sport during the middle of July, and still no word not even a build sheet. I can't wait much more, my 1992 thunderbird 5.0 sucks gas like crazy, and needs constant work. Hope someone here knows the pain.

We put down a deposit on a Sport manual transmission on April 20, and still no word. Two dealers have told me Honda has not permitted them to place any orders for manual transmission Fits, for undisclosed reasons. One dealer is going to attempt the order again today. Even if the order is accepted, delivery won't happen until at least late November. If we saw an attractive alternative, we'd look hard at it, but nothing else has the same combination of virtues.

That is amazing...I've been lurking for some time studying these issues for the past 2 months. I was going between the Mazda3 and the Fit...of course, none could be found, which almost made me go for Mazda.

But I found a gem in a certain Honda sales manager. I informed him I wanted the Fit (we also considered Civics & Elements). Of the three main Honda dlrshps in KC, this guy has his act together. He immediately proceeds to get on his computer while on the phone; and car by car, begins giving me dates when each will be built, when each should hit the dock, and when he should have the car at the lot. So while we were on the phone, he finds a Storm Silver AT Sport which was just delivered to the U.S. (meaning Portland) and it was unallocated. I said quickly, let's get it! I went in, signed, put down a deposit, and was given a VIN and an OTD price, and quoted arrival of 28 August to Sept 1. The car arrived August 30 and I drove off in it, exactly 2 weeks after I signed.

Sorry for being long winded, but I think you should look for another dealer...they all should have the ability to do this type of service. If they can't even give you a VIN or a build date, you're in trouble.

I feel your pain

My old '91 Civic SI has 300K+ miles on it, and I'm just starting to see the clear coat peeling (at least where it isn't rusting)

I put down a deposit on a VBP Base manual on July 5. No word yet, though the dealer was vague the last time about having a build date, but not having one. I figure if I'm going to get one by the end of October, the time originally guesstimated, I should at least have a build date in the next week or so. So I'll call them back next weekend, and if they're still goofing around I'll start making preparations to bail, and make sure they know it, too:

One way or the other, on November 1, I will be driving a new car.

At this point it is really up to Honda whether that will be a Fit or a Versa. And if we like the Versa, we won't be looking back, either. I'm a lifelong Honda customer- I've only bought one non-Honda car in my life, and I've bought all of my Hondas from this same dealer, but enough is enough.

Since I put my deposit down August 8th on my Fit my current POS car has broken down or not started about 3 or 4 times. I am praying I can get by paying the least amount to fix only neccessities til my Fit comes in Nov/Dec. This stupid car has cost me $5 grand in repairs every year! I feel your pain!

Still waiting too

I put a depost down May 12th on a VBP MT Sport. I didn't get a build date till late July (build date 8/24) then it moved(8/29). I finally got a VIN number Monday. Should be about 3-4 more weeks until it's delivered, I'm hoping sooner. It will take a while but I'm hoping it will be worth the wait.

I just went up and said, sport AT... whatever you got... Got it 2 months later. There is a waiting list for the Fit... well, at least here in Maryland. I think the fits stay in the lots about 3 days then they are all sold. Thats probably gonna keep happening for the next year or two. At any rate, I'll probably end up selling or giving my fit to my parents and getting the CVT version if it ever comes out.

I would not give any dealer one cent unless they can give you in return the VIN # from their allocation from Honda, or from a swap from another Honda dealer for the Fit model and color of your choice. Without a VIN #, they are just trying to tie up your options to keep you in their shop.

I have noticed that in several very large cities beyond Chicago, there are only a few dealers to choose between, and many of them share common ownership (in short, they've got you be the XXXX). Here in New Jersey, I can go to more than a dozen different Honda dealers in less than an hour.

I could not find a Fit here in the DFW area even to test drive. My brother who lives in New Orleans had driven one and said I would like it. We were debating whether to get on a waiting list here about two weeks ago when he called me to say that there was a red A/T sport there that the buyer could not make loan on. He put a deposit on it for me and I picked it up that weekend. They also are selling them as fast as they come in.

Agree with the Sonorliteman. My dealer had and inventory list (still have a copy) of the incoming Fts (inventory stock numbers, color, Base/Sport, and transmission type) from the get go. Once the car was built, they provided VIN via email. They should know exactly which FITs are coming in and so you should pick your purchase from that list! If they don't have the exact color, trim, and trans that you want on the list, than Limbo is yer plight!

Feel your pain, good luck!

I really hate calling BS on fellow Honda dealer but every dealer has access to what is coming in I can tell you what I have coming on every vehicle between now and november. Honda is still making manuals in the sport we have 4 on order(including mine) so if they say they can't order them that is a lie or they are such a small dealership they don'y get enough allocarted. My car has a build date of 9/18 we have a blue sport manual buid date 9/15 etc etc.

I got a call from my sales person today telling me hes about to process my order. I put a deposit in August. If I wanted an automatic he could have put the order through today and I would get it in November.

I want 5speed though. He cant put my order through until next month. Hes estimating January now. The only real reason is because theres people waiting for 5speeds in front of me. So far everyone waiting for 5speed has their car on schedule.

I was hoping by November/December I would be in a VBP Sport in 5speed. I mean when the time comes around I can always look for a Fit. By January I think the Fit will be more easy to get.

Sunday I might put another deposit at a different dealership. Classic Honda.

Matt,

Capitol Honda in McMinnville, OR has 4 blue sports on their lot, we bought my daughters silver sport there in May. They charged $500 over MSRP but at the time it was the only one in the state. Went through the internet dealer, talked to a girl named Bree but I can't remember her last name.

My dealer verified they ordered my Fit Sport MT, and gave me a build date of Sept 19. I think it was some time in early/mid July that they gave me that information.

I'm hoping they didn't just order a Fit Sport... because if they get an auto in, I won't take it.

I put a deposit down on the EXACT SAME CAR you did (VBP base manual) on July 3rd. I just recently got a build date (check sig). You should call your salesman and see whats going on. You should have a build date as well.

Yeah I am still waiting too! I (hopefully) have a VBP Sport M/T on the way. I was told build date was 8-4-06 . Last update they are telling me delivery around end of Sept. I don't have no VIN # yet. I would feel better if I did. I have nightmares that some other salesman doesn't know that the car is already spoken for, and he sales it to somebody else! I played the waiting game once before when I ordered my pickup in 96. I waited 5 1/2 months on it. (Over some type of paint issues)

Not sure if it helps or hurts, my Fit Sport M/T build date was 8-3-06 and delivered to dealer (Phoenix, AZ) on 5 September. They provided the VIN number on 8-29. Except for the inland distance, not sure why your experience should be different ??? Get that Fit!

If you look at their web site "inventory" looks lke the four cars only have two VIN numbers (i.e. two cars)

We ordered from a dealer in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, put a $500 deposit down July 22 for a SSM Fit Sport, M/T and got word today that it will be here Wednesday. I wonder how the build dates compare with the US & Canada? Are we getting them that much quicker? I wonder why?
