First Post..Almost An Owner
First Post..Almost An Owner
I wish the subject could have been, "First Post..New Owner"; but it wasn't meant to be.
I have been checking availability of 2015 Fits in my area on CarGurus for a couple of months. Yesterday, I thought my search had come to an end. The local Honda dealer received a shipment that contained a silver LX with manual transmission and a white LX with CVT. I knew I could be happy with either color; but I was going to let the test drive be the deciding factor concerning transmission choice.
Today, I went to the dealer knowing that I would be the owner of a new Fit before the day was done. I wasn't expecting any super financial deal; and was prepared to pay MSRP to complete the deal if need be. I also knew that there would be some additional charges for taxes and other junk fees associated with registration. I wasn't prepared for what I found, though.
Taped to the rear window, beside the factory window sticker, was an additional sheet showing charges of $894 for (Name of Dealer) Protection Package. As near as I can figure, that package consists of a very expensive car wash and wax job which represents pure profit for the dealer.
According to the salesman, it is a non-negotiable item which is done on every car they sell. I'm fairly non-negotiable myself about being taken advantage of; so I left the building without a Fit.
I'm glad to be a member here, even though I am a non-owner. I will eventually buy my Fit; but I suspect I will have to travel to a different city to buy it.

Aww...that really sux. I hate how dealerships add all the extra crap on just to make an extra buck. I totaled my '08. Found another one at a dealership. They weren't willing to give me a deal but '08's are scarce so I put a deposit down. Today I found a better 08 from a private seller with less miles, perfect body, and $1700 less. Guess which one I'm picking up tomorrow? Hope they don't give me crap about returning my deposit!
