15,000 US miles today, +'s & -'s

Looked at the 'speedo' at Wegman's parking lot and it was at 15,001! made me reflect; 1 flat (ruined) tire- $ 110, 2 front wheels balanced- $ 10.95, 1 oil change- $ 24.95 (1st one was free at Honda dealer). As low as 25 m.p.g. city (NYC/NJ) to as high as 40 m.p.g. (Ohio Turnpike @ 60 m.p.h.) Also, I have found 1 plastic fastener on the floor that fell off something in the interior, and another on the driveway that fell off something inside or the outside. This last week I test drove a Toyota Matrix and a Nissan Versa with my son who is looking for a new car- glade I picked the Fit. Biggest Fit negatives are (1) the rough ride (especially over expansion joints on a long trip), and (2) lack of a 4 way driver seat adjustment so you can get 100 % comfortable. The electric steering gives feedback better than other electric units, but it does not 'center' itself, requiring constant minor 'centering' corrections. The auto-box changes gears quicker that anything except an Audi/VW twin-clutch auto-box. Initial pick-up from a dead stop is 'Spot-on', but as you get closer to 60, the power and acceleration fades (but the engins sounds as if a turbo cuts in above 4K making you feel better despite the true lack of acceleration). The smoothness of the engine, the 5 speeds with the auto-box with the paddles on the steering wheel, and the cargo volume inside with the seats folded are the biggest +'s.

I'm only at 8,000.

I haven't had any stray pieces fall off yet.
No flats.
One extremely minor door ding.
Wish my fuel economy was as good as yours.
Love this car!!! Love the handling, room, stereo (I said that about an OEM system???,) the way it looks, and almost everything about it.
EPS is much better than most, including the '05 Accord Hybrid, but still isn't perfect. I have no major issues with it.
I'm thrilled with the steering ratio! It is a major change to drive something else with "slow" steering!!

Forgot about 'the skirts' that make it look like a 'low-rider'- a minor issue on the '-' side, they always seem to get scraped or snagged in parking lots, on curbs, or on steep driveways requiring touch-up paint ($ 10) at several points (no, I don't think it is my driving). If you want cruise control, you have no choice but to go with the Sport edition.

How did the Matrix compare to the Fit?

(I've actually kicked around the idea of going to look at a Matrix, since I have to wait another 1.5 months for my Fit to get here...)

The Matrix hold more cargo, the bottom of the rear seats lower themselves to make a flat load floor, space is 20 % bigger than the fit. Same price as Fit. It also rides smoother. I rented one in Florida and was pleased with it. 1.8 engine. The engine 'booms' when pushed. 4 speed auto, no MP3 jack. I would pick it above the Versa, but below the Fit. Probabbly in its last year, to be replaced with next Corrolla 5 door hatch. They are their for the pickings on dealers' lots.
