Factory, port, or dealership installed accessories?
Factory, port, or dealership installed accessories?
I'm in the process of trying to order a 2015 Honda Fit EX-L Navi with several accessories. I have said that I want to order a Fit that has accessories installed at the factory or port, but I was told by one sales person today that Honda doesn't do port-installed accessories - essentially they have to install at the dealership (which basically winds up being double the MSRP cost listed on the Honda website). Is this true? I know that Subaru (for example) can install at port, but I've had a hard time finding out what Honda's practice is.
Still looking for a final answer on this. I've reached out to Honda (corporate) directly, so I'm hoping to get a straight answer. A local dealership told me today that they had never heard of Honda doing custom orders where accessories are installed at port, but I'm still skeptical. Would appreciate others' experiences with this if possible, or if you were able to pay MSRP or lower for accessories installed at the dealership.
As far as what I seen with these newer Hondas, they all come in to the dealer with no accessories. The only add ons they have at that time are the factory equipped/installed options for their trim level like Blind Spot Dection, Lane Departure Warning, VTM-4/RT-4 (4WD), etc.
Anything outside of that, is an accessory that is added on either during Pre-Delivery Inspection or has been requested to be installed by the customer. With that said, if you have OEM accessories INCLUDED in your delivery then those parts will be covered under the 3 year/36k bumper to bumper warranty; now, if those EXACT SAME parts were to be added on the car AFTER delivery then those parts/accessories fall under the 1 year/12k mile warranty beginning at the date of that install.
I personally wouldn't be too worried about simple install accessories like wheel locks, door visors or body side moldings as long as you follow the instructions while being cautious and patient since they just bolt and/or stick on. Its the potentially paint and body damaging items I'd be concerned about like the splash guards for example which have clips that literally dig into the paint and leave gouges if you remove the clip.

Thanks for your response. I am surprised that Honda doesn't do custom orders where accessories are installed before arriving at the dealership. My primary concern is that I'm getting overcharged by the dealer -- I had one dealer quote me pretty much double MSRP on all the accessories I was interested in. As a contrast, my boyfriend ordered a custom configuration of a brand new WRX earlier this year where all his accessories were installed at port and he paid less than invoice for the base car, and less than MSRP for the accessories. Obviously different brands have different approaches, but I'm disappointed that, so far, Honda doesn't seem to be as accommodating to what I'd like.
Even so, I appreciate your details on warranty based on when accessories are added. Obviously it's better to get them installed prior to delivery.

Not much of a port for Fits to come through.
Every option that gets added to a car raises its price and reduces the number of potential buyers, so nobody's excited about adding them until delivery. Installing extras at the factory pulls the factory away from efficient production and turning their distribution channels into customization shops is ridiculous. And all this so someone can save a couple of bucks on fuzzy dice?
If your local dealer is overcharging you, buy your car from another dealer. That's the work around, not dodging them on a few accessories.
