Dealer price for valve adjustment
Called my local dealer today to get a price on a valve adjustment for a 2007 Fit and was shocked to hear it was $550 and a four hour job. I mentioned that I had it done before there and it was much cheaper so dealer looked my records and said I had it in done in 2013 for $230. When I asked her why it was so much more now, she said "well, labor costs have gone up". I later found my old receipt and it was a 2 hour job. It's the same car so I guess their workers have just gotten slower!
Very disappointed in my local dealer. Liked to think that I could trust them.

Valve adjustment cost
I sent a note around to 5 local dealership service centers and asked them to bid on my valve adjustment after my local dealer told me to my face that it would be $450. I got all kinds of replies back. My lowest quote was $300 and I took the e-mail over to my local dealer and made them match it. They did. From that day on, I decided to do the same thing whenever there was a repair that I felt the dealership should do (ie: transmission work or a specialized procedure). Try it. Send out a note with all their addresses visible so that each one can see they are bidding for your business.

1 hour job?
I don't know, guys. My mechanic said it was a 1 hour job; so something like $100/hr plus like $15 for a valve cover gasket = $115. That was from an independant mechanic. And my dealer quoted me about $230.
There are stories on this forum of the valve adjustment prices being all over the place; about $60 up to the $500 that you're saying. So, yeah, shop around, but also find yourself a good independant mechanic; this is exactly the kind of job they can save you a lot of money on; an easy job that the dealers have learned to gouge people on.

At 140K on my '08 Sport 5MT, I wanted to get my first valve lash adjust done. Found a Honda mechanic working out of his home who quoted me at $250 for valve adjust, coolant flush, and a manual tranny flush. He finished in 3 hr. and even threw in a brake fluid change. Really made the engine run much better; it had a tendency to hesitate before, but now it feels like it has an extra gear.

Honda Fit stalking when cold
Thanks for all of the great info.
Had a fit with my Fit. Would stall when cold.
Had the valves adjusted like suggested here and bingo car just runs fine now.
Thanks again
