Top Dead Center mark?
I want to say the red mark is usually for ignition timing, so white should be the TDC mark....but I don't bother to remember these.

This is how I do it:

If you spin the crank pulley clockwise, the first mark to reach the pointer is the ignition timing mark. Second mark about 10mm after that is TDC....and it could leave the engine on #1 TDC or #4 TDC.

But you are gonna pull the head off.
So you gotta get the crank pulley bolt loose first....then set the engine up on TDC and use this info below:

Pull the valve cover off, look for the cylinder numbers and the word UP on the gear to locate #1. Horizontal hash marks on the cam gear align with the edge of the head.
Once you have this correctly aligned, the crank pulley should be nearly perfect.

#2 Where is the chain bander?
I assume you mean the chain tensioner? Behind the timing chaincover. There is no easy access hole, you have to remove the entire timing chain cover. (you have to remove the entire timing chain cover to get the head off anyway)

Just PULL the motor,, its way easier.. 2 hours tops if you got 1 guy under the car and one guy working for above.

Use a digital camera as you uncool each connection and write a number on it.
