Messing with timing
Hey, has anyone tried to mess with the cam timing?
Technically:
"Camshaft Advance:
Opens the valves sooner
Builds more low-end torque
Decreases piston-to-intake-valve clearance
Increases piston-to-exhaust-valve clearance
Camshaft Retard:
Opens the valves later
Builds more high-end power
Increases piston-to-intake-valve clearance
Decreases piston-to-exhaust-valve clearance"
Has anyone tired it? Can we even do it? Aftermarket cam gear/sprocket?

I would leave it alone on this engine.... We did this to motorcycle engines that were racing in stock classes when the timing was not correct to the factory specs by removing the crank sprocket and elongating the mounting holes..... I used after market cams on a Harley I owned that had three key positions for + 4 or - 4 and 0 degrees degrees on valve timing. Ignition and mixture adjustments adjustments were easy on an old Shovel Head, and not so on a FIT..... I found out that even on an engine with lots of expensive mods, that 0 degrees worked the best.
