Wheel spacers and wheel bearings

Has anyone used wheel spacers?
I'm interested in buying rims but they'd require bolt pattern converters. I think the spacer is about an inch in thickness.

does it affect the wheel bearing life significantly?
anything else?

thanks!

It's doubtful that the wheels have enough offset to use the spacer. You'll likely have clearance issues.

What are the specs on the wheels? OEM offset is +53mm.

OEM offset is 55 and stamped right on the factory Enkei rims. IMPOSSIBLE to find aftermarket rims in that offset in that size. Exalted company - the old NSX's had 55 offset also.

Why would you want aftermarket wheels with the same offset? The factory wheel stance sucks on these cars. I have been using rear 1" spacers for over 60,000 miles only in rear of my wifes GK, no issues.

That only works in the rear and only works with the tiny narrow wheel/tires.

If the OP is looking at 7" wide wheels, they will need +40 or more without a spacer in order to not rub.

Also, depends a bit on the year. GK's have the most clearance. If it's a GD, there's less room for error.

well usually because most aftermarket wheels are ET40 range in this size so add 25mm for the pcd changing spacer and u got a ET15 wheel.

good luck fitting that in the front without poke and rubbing especially if wider barrel.

okay I gotcha. I don't know the offset of the aftermarket wheels. I haven't seen them yet.
But that's good to know.

What about issues with the wheel bearing?

Wheel bearing stress depends on the total offset with spacer. Use kenchan's advice above.

Basically the wheels would need to be +65 offset to work. That doesn't exist.

if u get a set of wheels that fit the car properly you wont notice much premature wear on wheel bearings. one thing to note, some cars come with bad wheel bearings out of the factory. they can go bad even with factory wheels. ive had a few cars (new cars) with bad bearings that needed replacement within 10k miles of ownership. hadnt even swapped wheels yet. GL with your wheel hunting.

just get the right offset to begin with. on a lot of cars, including the ge8, rear wheels have about 12mm more fender clearance than fronts. personally i wouldnt offset the rears more than 15mm if you are not spacing the front because then it becomes obvious.

rubbing tires because of low offset wheels gets old quick. you risk cutting tires and denting fenders. your only hope is if your bump stops bottom out before the tire hits the fender.
heres an example of what 15x8 20et with 195/55-15 looks like. definitely not functional.

front/no drop

rear with 2''drop
