Im in the market for a dslr camera and have been debating between the D40 and the D60. How is this camera compared to those two? Good for a beginner? I might be interested... Let me see the kind of pictures it can take

I forgot to respond to your question about the compare of the d40 and d60. The d40 is pretty much a newer version of the d50. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe the d40 and d50 are almost identical except I think the d40 is newer so has some advantages and the body of the d40 is a little smaller. As far as the d60 I would assume the D60 would be a little bit better be higher in the series. The D60 probably is a newer version of the D70.

In order from worst to best, it seems like D40, D60, D50, D70, D80, D90. The D50 was the entry level Nikon, then got discontinued and replaced by the D40, which lacks has more software options, but lacks hardware performance. With the D40 you can only get autofocus to work with certain lenses (I think DX only). Then the D60 seems to be the middleweight Nikon, since the D70 and D80 are no longer produced. My cousin has a D60 and I still prefer my D50 much more. The D60 has a large LCD screen, again more software capabilities, and the body still feels small. I would definitely choose this over the D40, but not anything else.

I don't personally know Fitcapo, but I have basically the same gear he's selling except my 28-70/2.8 is a Tamron lens. I can bouch for a D50 as I personally own one and at the time it was released, it was the best bang for the buck when compared to other DSLRs like Cannon, Minolta, etc. At the time I bought it, the D50 capabilities were compared with it's bigger cousing, the D700, a much more expensive camera; that's how good the D50 was. I say $300 for everything is a very decent price considering it includes two lenses. Just my 2 cents..

Thanks for the rep too. I was planning on selling mine as well and maybe acquiring a D80 or D90, but they are both so much more expensive..

I was going to go for the d5000 but.... I read some reviews and looked things over and in the end it pretty much said the d5000 is a great starter camera while the d90 is better for someone that is more indepth. The d50 was my starter so I am ready for the upgrade and that means d90 for me

btw.... who did you order the 35mm f1.8 from?

LOL. yeah thats true. but basically any dx format camera is an "entry level" camera i suppose. LOL. just go balls out and get the D3X! LOL. I ordered my 35mm from adorama btw. Its backordered everywhere. I was hoping to have it for my trip to monterey bay next weekend. I freaking ordered it a month ago too. If you REALLY dont wana wait. Theres people selling the 35mm brand new for 320 on ebay. I'd rather wait than pay the extra 120 though. LOL

Well sure enough it is backordered. Fricken ritz didn't say it was on their web page but I got the email and it says it will ship in 2-4 weeks

Will have to go to the local camera shop see if they happen to have one and maybe cancel my order and just get it through them.
