OT: downforce

I just came across this article from the Aj-racing site

A&J Racing :: Super Street Time Attack

It said

"We also made several adjustments on the J’s Racing 3D GT rear wing to obtain more downforce to avoid oversteering during the high speed turns."

I was wondering on how they adjust the wing without the use of a wind tunnel. Iam very curious to know and would love to learn how to accomplish this.

Thanks

couldn't they just change the tilt angle of the wing to create more downforce? it's basic physics

and how do u know how much of an angle to tilt the wing by to correct oversteering? How can you prove at the end that this specfic angle will give you the result you want?

from the article you linked, it seems like they just created more downforce to prevent oversteering. so i don't think they calculated exactly what angle to get what downforce to avoid oversteer because that would depend on the speed and the wind right? it seems like they just changed the angle to create more downforce, and the reason they made more downforce was to help prevent oversteeer. (that's just what it seems like to me)

Let's say in this kinda time attack event/local solo2 race events, u're allowed that many sessions or runs trying to get your best lap times....

Drivers/team mechanics will need to adjust their cars' setting(downforce, alignment, tire pressure, dampening etc) w/ their experiences on driving/walking the course. How good the setting they can get depends on how good their skills & how experienced they're at that kinda event/track IMO.

Different drivers or different cars have different characters/styles. Some drivers would prefer the vehicle to rotate better @ slow corners while it's harder to control on fast sweepers etc.

People can only get it as prefect as they can. But not 100% perfect. Coz weather, deposit left on the road(oil/coolant), etc can all affect the lap time.

Of coz the driver's skill counts too

that and the fact that the angle of attack isnt infinetly variable, they have holes which corrospond to different angles of attack and they choose the one which is better than the rest, not neccesarily optimal but the best they can get. In the time attack i believe they drilled an additional hole to get max downforce
