Honda FiT Safety Recall: Floor Wire Harness Corrosion

Just received my copy of a safety recall for the Honda FiT.

For your information, the problem is described as follows:

"Splices in the floor wire harness may not be sufficiently sealed. In areas where road salt is used, the driver may get in the vehicle with a mixture of snow and salt on their feet. The water and salt that soaks through the carpet may enter these splices. Over an extended period of time, the wire splices may corrode, causing a faulty connection in the SRS occupant detection system (ODS). If this connection fails and the vehicle is in a collision, the ODS may not operate properly. As a result, the side airbag may deploy even if a person is leaning toward the outside of the front passenger seat, or the front passenger's airbag may deploy even if the front passenger weighs less than about 30 kilograms."

What should you do?

Contact your Honda dealer to schedule an appointment to have your vehicle's wire harness splices sealed at a convenient time for you. This will also allow your dealer to give you an ideas how long they will require your vehicle - usually less than a day - to perform the repair. the dealer will perform the necessary repairs on your vehicle, free of charge.
Hope this helps all you FiT owners out there. Driver safely.

Great! People who have all-weather mats would likely not have any problems.

got my letter over 2 weeks ago, and only took it in 5 days ago. probably not a big deal really. I only have carpet mats and no corrosion was found on mine.

If no corrosion is found, only need to splice two wires. if corrosion is found, need to replace harness, which means it might take longer. A day if they have the part in.

Does anyone know where this harness is actually located, and what panels / parts are needed to remove to see it?

it's under the plastic cover on the driver's side floor right next to the door. that plastic panel that you step over whenever you get into and out of your car.
