Mpg

if you want good mpg buy a manual 5 speed I have found it is about 8 to 10 miles per gallon different in city.... I had a manual for 7000 miles it was totaled in a crash. I now own an automatic... It is a nice car but I know that since you asked about mpg you better get an manual or wait until the o8 is available

Im getting 28-30mph. I live in Kunia and work in Waipahu, so the drive to work is only 2 miles... Im sure if I did more freeway driving, I'd get better mileage.
I've used Unocal, Chevron, Costco/ALoha and Tesoro gas... So far the best mileage I've experienced is Tesoro w/ 89octane... At first, I was like, no way... Tesoro? But I verified it w/ this tankful! Dayum!

Really? Some of my best was with the AC on, was worse with windows open. However, now with the cold weather, I am dropping. My average (base 5 speed) has been about 1-1.5 MPG better than the EPA 36 MPG mixed. Last couple tanks were 35-36. But not a problem for you HI guys then eh?

On the highway with the Auto transmission expect about 32-34 mpg.
In the city with the Auto transmission expect between 25 and 28 mpg.
Depends on how much gridlock and stop and go traffic you have. Also depends on how you drive, you'll burn more gas if you drive aggressively.

In Hawaii we have speed limits of 45 to 60 mph mostly 50 to 55.
On the mainland it's usually quite a bit faster on the highway so that usually means slightly lower mpg but it can vary.
I got 32 mpg in a FIT sport AT driving 80% highway the rest urban but not in rushhour traffic. Only had about 1000 miles on the odometer.

yeah... I that's my problem. I don't drive the speed limit, but I do use the cruise control at 80mph. haha

I have 1800 miles so far and still getting low mpg. I have never gotten much above 27.
About 24-25 mpg on mixed driving mostly short trips and some heavy traffic on weekends.
I have 5AT and I think that is the problem.

Do you use the cruise control much?
No way I can get close to 30 driving in Hawaii unless I drive only during non busy times and do mostly highway driving.
I took a drive on the interstate with my 2007 Fit going to Indianapolis and it was steady freeway at 60-65 mph and only got about 30-32 mpg. Used the cruise control fair amount.
Going uphill is always bad on mpg so I figure 55 is OK. 70 mph would burn gas like crazy, just remember that when you see the other drivers trying to beat the slower ones.

How fast do you drive up the H2 hill to get home?

I think the 5AT has an overdrive gear which kicks in when going along and if you are easy on the throttle or even with a slight coasting.
2000 rpm at 54 mph is usually as good as I can get and be moving along enough.
2200 rpm at 60 is also OK.
If I drive around keeping rpms at 2000 or lower and be gentle on the throttle I think I can get about 30 mpg with mostly highway driving. I did it a little and checked. I got about 28.2 miles on a little less than 0.9 gallons.
It's pretty hard to do and it takes all the fun out of driving but in times of high gas prices it might work.
The other idea I have is to replace the 195/55-15 tires with something more narrow
185/60-15. Good example is Ultra High Perf All Season-
Falken Ziex Ze-912 $56 each 480 treadwear 17.5 lbs each
Fits rims 5-6.5" wide, 23.9" tire diameter slightly tall so less wheel gap.
For this tire it's 3 lbs less than the stock size and 1/2" taller.
60 series sidewall is more comfortable. Handling should be OK.
