How does the Fit A/C handle our endless summers?

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2011 Honda Fit A/T base level. I've read a couple of posts of people complaing about the Fit's inability to keep you cool. Have any of y'all had this problem?

Thanks for any info.

yes the A/C is JUST adequate. if you want some frosty cold A/C look else where. i only bought the fit for its fun personality and awesome utility.

It's been pretty good for me here in Baton Rouge. Last summer was a bitch but just let it blow for about 7-10 minutes before you go somewhere and it should be fine.

Get your windows tinted, a windshield sunshade when parked & and it will help--the massive windshield when hot will really heat your dash--but a sunshade helps immensely.

I have the darkest tint that is legal on the windows and the windshield is tinted further down than is legal.. I also have the Mugen style vent visors the extend out further than others and somewhat shade the side windows. These things help quite a bit, but when the humidity and temperature is high and I am driving in heavy traffic I wish the A/C was putting out colder air.

Nothing blasts cold air like a GM air conditioner. You know, big clouds of condensation in the air like someone opened the door to a cryogenic vault!

Takes a bit to get it going on a hot summer day, but it does okay, though it is not the best. You will find that it cools less under hard acceleration, but that is normal (I had another small car that did the same thing), and it goes back to cold air when you are cruising.

.. It has a vacuum switch that cuts off the A/C compressor when the vacuum drops.. Polasky put together a DIY of how to use a potentiometer and resistor to prevent the cycling on and off.. He said it was like being in a refrigerator when he wanted it cold but it really hurt fuel mileage... I would be willing to use extra fuel on a hot 100+ degree day... I think that my A/C works better since I put air louvers on the hood. Raking the hood by using washers between the hood hinges and the hood would help in the same way... Getting the heat out of the engine compartment helps surprising well...

Thanks for all the info. My 1996 Honda Accord's a/c died this summer, so anything is better than nothing. Not sure if any car a/c could have kept up with some of our summers of late.

Ya what sooz said!
I have all the above + vent shades and it's bearable in Aug & Sept. here in VA Beach.

I agree with Mikey about the Mugen type visors, that we both have, as being beneficial.. I was very pleased with the amount of difference that particular style makes in reducing heat when the sun is over head during midday by shading the tinted windows.
