One enterprising landlord is charging people to sleep in vans amid city’s rising rent prices

The affordable housing crisis in Los Angeles may have reached a breaking point with the emergence of the “vanlord.”

The RealDeal - continues

2500/mo for RENT. *face palm*

sadly, San Diego is becoming the next LA and hence, the reason I had to leave and move 1 hr north.

That has to be all kinds of illegal and I imagine the liability exposure as a landlord is incredible.

But

Its a rationale response, a symptom if you will, of a very broken housing market. These cities have to expand up, like most large cities, or out with effective transit. But they've reached the extent of the "out" option given current technologies and they refuse to consider allowing denser housing. So yeah.
