That isn't the fault of the cyclist.

And is all the more reason we need more protected bike lanes.

I don't think that's what I said nor did even imply it.

I wouldn't bother engaging Mike in a discussion about implications. Implying Nazism is his preferred debate tool with those he disagrees with.

I'm not saying you said that either

I'm saying we could build a system that makes cycling safer and more attractive to millions of people.

That's very true! I just had to go with what the heading stated. Really many people can even benefit with an e-bike. Seems like first reports are stating that even e-bike users get about the same exercise as manual riders.

I've never tried an e-bike. I drive my car to work (once a week, long commute to a rural area) and use the bus seven days a week.

During the summer/fall, I stop using the bus and just walk a few miles a day.

For very short commutes, an e-bike would be great. Even in the winter, I would do it. Unfortunately, my current commute is 38 miles. The Fit is about as efficient a balance between cost, time, and energy expenditure/pollution creation as I can get.

Conversely, I will say that e-bikes are pretty annoying to 'normal' cyclists on bike trails.

That's impressive that you walk few miles per day. It's hard to say without knowing more, but bike and bus doesn't work for you?

On bike trails you can usually hear them coming. Many times I have a tunes going, so that doesn't work. Really as long as they give a heads-up like some horn, things are OK. It easy for anyone really to be careless on the trail or road.

If the weather is nice I just like enjoying that. I'll happily sacrifice some time to enjoy a good walk.

Milwaukee is also a pretty compact city, so a few miles covers a ton of ground.
