e brake pull + burnt clutch

ok I was talking to this kid at my school, and he said that pulling your e brake on snow burns your clutch. He said he had to replace his sti's clutch because of that. I don't see how if the clutch is surpressed or if the car is in neutral that it could hurt. I know its not good for it, but I don't think that it would reduce the clutch's life.

yeah his AWD would be affected by the e-brake, but the actual clutch wouldn't be. Hell, I do it all the time when we get a nice batch of snow on the ground haha...Oh and never switch over to neutral or depress the clutch when doing some snow drifts unless you are in a wide open space with nothing around you. Once you lose your connection with your engine, you'll have no control over the car.

The center limited slip diff in the Sti could be affected by using the ebrake, if done a lot. Occasional use would be unlikely to damage things, but still has the potential to do so. The Center diff is there to allow for the difference in distance traveled between the front and back wheels around a curve, because the front wheels take a path outside the back wheels. So the diff is designed to allow a few percentage points of difference in wheelspeed. When you go from 1-2 MPH difference to 50-60 mph difference, you are exceeding the design intentions and likely causing excessive wear if not actual damage to the center diff.

I normally do it in a wide open space (ie empty parking lot)
what gear do you normally leave it in? Bec I thought you'd prob stall doing this. Prob second for the speed i do it at (15 to 25 normally)

Perhaps he burnt the clutch bec he sucks at driving stick lol. No that I'm driving king or anything, but I rode with the kid and he had really jerky shifts. Even from like 3 to 4.
