I use a regular Nikon D40 Because its small and light weight for hiking and climbing. I also have 3 lenses to cover pretty much any situation. In my pocket I carry a Sony CyberShot 7.2MP 3x zoom digicam. The zoom sucks, but high MP makes for nice crops. I always carry a pocket camera for convenience.

The standard issue 18-55mm plus a 1.5x generic wide angle converter.

A Sigma 28-105mmD Aspherical IF that I got for $25 because the mounting ring was broken and the guy didn't think it was repairable. The ring was $8 with shipping.

And a Nikon 70-300mm VR.

I use three 4GB SD cards, and have filter kits for each lens. I also have an external flash. I have two hard cases for all my stuff when its not being used or when I'm not short on space. I also have a small Tamrac bag that holds all my gear and fits in my day pack when I go climbing. Its nice because you can reconfigure it in a hurry. The one accessory I still don't have but really need is a spare battery.

Sigma is great but their quality control is one of the worst so check out your focusing and make sure you got a good copy.

Nice to hear, I've been debating that one or the new Tamron which is getting stellar reviews.

There's been a big following of the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 on Nikon Café, it's pretty much the only ultra fast prime in that focal length so it has it's own market. Closest thing to it would be the Nikon 35 f/2. The new Sigma 50 1.4 is also getting some praise as well but it's crazy expensive. Aside from those two though most Nikon owners just bash Sigma. I'm starting to hate other photographers, most of them seem to have this bug up their ass that if you don't spend as much money on equipment as you, you're not worth their time lol. I much prefer talking to photographers via other forums like this and 8thcivic since we're all usually just hobbyists.

lol

Yeah the Sigma 30 f/1.4 is supposed to be borderline amazing. I've seen some shots with it and it's holding up to it's name so far.

Last I heard the D60 could be had in some places for around $100 more than the D40. In this situation I think if you have the extra money it might be worth it. You'll get the 18-55 with Vibration Reduction, the more MP, Active D-Lighting and the sensor cleaner. If money is an issue though there's nothing wrong with a D40, and you could always take that $100 and add it to a new lens fund lol.
