Need HELP! MT drivers, gear pops out?

Hi guys,

I´m having a big problem right now: my Fit rolled over me last Thursday

I had it in the garage, in first gear and went to pick something up outside..I just saw the car coming at me, but too late. Now I'm in a wheelchair with multiple pelvis fractures, and my hip was dislocated.

That's why I now look for people whose Fit also popped out of gear..I have been driving stickshifts for 8 years now and that never happened. I also experienced that with the Fit it's hard to get the gears in, especially in cold weather.

Please help me and tell me your experiences!

Thanks,

Mela

Thanks for your sympathy!
Yes, it was completely in gear, I drove it into the garage in first and you know the grinding sound when it's not in all the way..
And no, I did not use the parking brake. I'vebeen driving stickshifts for almost 8 years now, never used the parking brake when parking on a level surface.

You should refer your question to this forum - StandardShift.com. It will answer anything related to manual transmission (standard shift, that is).

First, I am really sorry to hear of your injury and hope that you make a quick recovery. That said though, what happened was not the fault of the car. Parking brakes exist for a reason and what happened to you would have been prevented had you used it properly. It basic Driver's Ed (and owner's manual) -- car is parked? Put on the parking brake. Period. Level ground means nothing and doesn't mitigate the need to use the brake. Unfortunately, you had to learn this the hard way, but luckily you're still around to be able apply the lesson from now on.

BTW, I'm not trying to pick on you or be a harda$$, it's just that here and on other boards there's sooo many threads that come up about parking brakes, and sooo many people who refuse to use them properly and are almost proud of it (because of course nothing ever happens). In your case, something did happen and hopefully others will read this and learn a bit as well.

Hope you decided to set the parking brake from now on.

Extra safety is always good.
