Btrthnezr3's Art Project

So...I don't know how many of you are into art, or making your own art for that matter, but I thought I'd post this here and get some feedback.

after my family and I painted our first canvas together (pictured below), I've been coming up with ideas for my solo project.

Original canvas. Each of us had a rectangle to "decorate"

My solo project will be on a 40x30 canvas and will be going in my bedroom.

I'm not sure how to describe the final outcome except that it will be brown with crackle underneath revealing turquoise and lime green stripes. Above the brown will be some gold and silver positive and negative Fleur De Lis.

I am of French heritage and have always loved the symbol but wanted to do something different and with my own spin.

This will be a few day process (or longer) but I wanted to share some pictures of my progress...

Let me know what you guys are thinking.

Here's the canvas pretty much blank, starting to measure and tape it up.

Notice that some stripes are bigger than others. That's because the wider stripes are what are going to be painted first. The ones that look thinner are because the tape is covering up most of that "stripe."

All ready for paint

First coat of turq painted on.

Any thoughts? I'm gonna keep this thread updated.

This pic shows the colors a little better

Then I put on the crackling medium (which is just glue--and clear, so no picture)

After I let the crackling medium dry, I put on the brown paint. Here are some pictures of the crackling finish

Well I for one will be following this thread to see how creative you get.

Where will this be hung?

My artistry consists of painting background on my slot car track and making the trees and rock walls.

Hi Amanda..... I haven't messed around much with painting, but the crackled paint is interesting to me..... Is that type of paint available in art supply stores or did you find it elsewhere?.... I have a friend in Dallas that is an artist and former curator of shows at the Bath House shows at White Rock Lake and a few other small venues.... I think he might be interested in knowing about the crackle finish paint if he isn't aware of it already.... I like what you are doing.

Well, I heard about it from my mom. She does lots of different finishes on things--she paints birdhouses, rocking chairs, etc. Anyways...I went to Hobby Lobby and got the stuff...but looking online, the people say that it is really just diluted glue. The only problem I ran into using it, was that you can only do one brush stroke over it in order for it to crackle and not smear. I really like the accidental finish that came out with some strokes revealing crackle, and some not. But I think next time, If I want full crackle, I may try a roller or see if spray paint will work. I really like it, it's different and the more and more I look at the painting, the more I like it, even with it's imperfections. It's mine and I took a lot of time planning and completing it.

Ahh yes, well...Jimmy Buffet wrote it I believe (co-wrote) but Aaron Neville sings it like no other. Sweet serenity. I don't care much for Jimmy Buffet.
