Meet my new....

PUPPYYY!!!!!!!




His name as of now is Hank - but I've been told that dogs respond better to two syllable names - especially something ending in a vowel. He doesn't respond to Hank so I could easily change it and train him to come to something else - throw me any suggestions if you've got 'em.

He's 16.4 pounds and 11 weeks old. Gonna be a biggun. His dad was a pure bred labrador(80 pounds) and mom was a hound/labrador mix(65 pounds) Both were hunting dogs so I'm hoping he will enjoy spending lots of time outdoors going for walks, fetching, and swimming.

Right now he's pretty schleepy, but I think after he gets comfortable with his surroundings in a few days he'll really open up. I'm so excited!!

Or hey..."black" in japanese is Kuro

Or "jazz" is Jazu

I've thought about naming him something Japanese, but I don't think I could go that route. Been studying the language for a year now, wonder if all my friends would think I've gone totally nutso going so far as to give my dog a Japanese name? hehe

Cute Labrador! Looks pretty young.

Ever thought of dance-inspired names? It's a coincidence that a lot of dance styles are in two syllables and end in vowels.

We had a few dogs back then which I named after dances: Tango, Boogie, Mambo.

He is a cute little bugger isn't he? Today he helped me wash the fit....







All that hard work made him schleeeeepy again:



P.S. I think the name Hank is staying. He looks like a Hank to me, although not the propane salesman type...

Nice dog i like hank. I just got a puppy as well named oreo. She is part american bull and part labador. She is the reason i want to get rid of my S and back into a fit. She does not fit well in my S

He's gonna be a big boy - those paws are huge. Start saving for his food!!! Cutie-pie though. And Hank is a great dog name, there is a whole series of "Hank the Cow-Dog" books.

Hank is really cute. It is great he is already helping you wash the car - maybe when he gets older he can do it for you haha.

Schleepy Hank looks like a hard worker and really enjoys diving right into the job he's a cute one.
2 bucket system, good job!

I had forgotten all about this thread!! I don't have any updated pictures of him at the moment - maybe this weekend I'll snap a few. For now here are a couple of pictures taken about two months ago. Keep in mind that puppies grow fast - last time i weighed him was maybe 3-4 weeks ago and he was sitting at 52.5 lbs. I imagine by his heft that he's somewhere around 60 give or take now.















The other dog in the pictures is my sister's lab/shepard mix. She sits right around 50 lbs. Hank has since gained more confidence in swimming and takes every chance he can get to go swim out to the middle of the lake without his ninja turtle life-jacket.

He's a beauty! I had to laugh at the life jackets for labs! I suppose when they are just puppies and don't know their own limits...like teenage boys.... lol

He's a big'un, looks like a great friend. There's nothing like the bond of a retriever, they'er happy everytime they see you. Pat ol' Hank on the head for me.

Thanks! Yeah, the life jacket was just a preventative measure for him. Cora (my sister's dog) loves her life jacket because it lets her float around with the rest of us without getting too tired.

Now I let him swim around without fear of him getting into trouble. He's started to dive in shallower parts of the lake to take a peek at the bottom.

Yep, I stand by retrievers being the best dogs. Not a day in their life they aren't aiming to please.

Maya looks like a fantastic dog. Labradors sure are swimming machines. Any idea how much she weighed around 6.5 months? I wonder where Hank will be once he stops growing...

she reached 90lbs at about a year so I would guess she was about 50-60lbs when she was 6 months. I don't know if your dog is purebred mine isn't she half collie and lab.

His dad was a pure bred black lab and mom was a choco lab/bloodhound mix. I hope he hits around 90 lbs. That'd be just about the perfect size I think. Really I just want him to be tall enough so that I don't have to bend over too much to pet him
