Man, I spent years on a Buick forum. I had a 71 GS455 and a 70 Skylark, and the information sharing was beyond laid back. It was an incredible group.
I'm pretty newb here, but compared to the Mazda forums I'm registered at, this one seems pretty laid back IMO lol...
Kechan, your advise on the blocking feature was awesome. That cleared up some frustration immediately.
I realised something (finally) today after re-reading my original post whilst in a blinding fit (lol) of forum rage, and the repsonses shortly thereafter. My "example" question regarding fuel octane was the only thing I could think of that could cause a negative reaction when the question was posed to more experienced forum members. I was not actually asking the question myself. I am actually very familiar with this subject and subsequent conversations regarding fuel quality and pre-detonation, but again, I was just throwing an example out there. My timing was poor, and I guess that back-fired.
One poster insinuated that my small number of posts may equal no ability to contribute to the site. This seems odd, but I can understand. I do have about 20 years experience in the automotive retail service arena (mainly Toyota and Honda) though, maybe that counts for something, maybe it doesn't. I don't know.
But since I have your attention for a second, I need some help. I don't know where to plug this 20 HP "chip" in that I bought on Ebay.

actually the percentage of trolls & idiots that post here is much lower than some of the other car forums ive been in. i can gauge that by the number of handles in my ignore list.
ive added a few this month but last 2 months have been very calm.
How much information need be shared by the majority of people here?
For the average person, every question that need every be answered has been answered.

This is the hard hitting analysis we need someone to make a note of, someone who keeps track of all this in some sort of online journal, or web log?
A "blog," if you will.

If the search engine was perfect your post of where to place the chip will be coming back forever, luckily the search mechanism doesn't work to good and it will be lost after the initial laughter dies down. I don't like when people point out you are resurrecting an old post when you find some info with the search.

One of the things I do before looking at a car is look at their Forums. Not only will you get a sense of what can go wrong with the car, which is key, but also if the forums are full of boring people .. are you going to stay excited about your car? I submit not. If people LOVE their cars, that's a really good sign you might too.

Dave, you make a great point. My life changed a lot for the better when I simply realized that half the world doesn't have enough to eat, so having breakfast already puts me in the better-off half (and yeah, it does suck that half the world is so bad off).
As far as mileage, it's a hard thing to improve- at higher speeds much of the energy is used to overcome wind resistance, and essentially you're pushing a cube through space, regardless of its weight. There's only so much you can do to improve aerodynamics of a vehicle.
