Ranting about the import scene

Dear FF members,

What annoys you about the import scene? What trends have you shaking your head?

There's a few things that are just a sore for my eyes:
-Stance and the whole stance culture. I don't mind having a car really low on bags, but to have negative camber and big ass rims just looks horrible. It's also incredibly dangerous.
- Fake parts. Don't fake the funk. Furthermore, don't try and pass off your fake parts like they are real parts. Take those damn stickers off!
- Decals/Stickers. If you have one or two of companies that you want to rep, that's fine. Having tons of them just looks horrible. Keep your shocker stickers off your car.
- Sticker bombing. Stop.
- Tow hooks. You don't track your car, so don't pretend that you do. Most of my friends who do, they drive themselves to the track. I don't know anyone who trailers their car just to track it. That's some hardparker BS.

A few honorable mentions:
Rusted hood/rat rod style.
APC/track auto/pep boys/etc... parts.
Most body kits.
Wheels that are too big or too obnoxious.
Underglows/exterior lights.

Nothing.

The only thing that bothers me is overly pretentious dickhead scenesters that feel the need to criticize everyone else's car like they're somebody.

Im honestly sick of the Japanese Domestic Market parts. It seems that no one will try to enhance the USDM parts that came with the car.

However my opinions are definitely biased since Im more function minded then form.
Hypocritically I would JDM front swap the fit in order to lighten the front end.

Was that directed towards me or in general?

How would you enhance the USDM parts? I would agree though that function > form.

One particular area that stands out to me is the dc2. The USDM is shorter and lighter, has more of a wedge promoting better aerodynamics than the JDM counterpart. Sportcar Motion is someone that stands out to me as running different areo setups to help improve track times based around that body style. Top Aero is another company that I tend to keep watch of.

I didn't know that it was lighter and shorter, that's cool to know. My gf actually really likes the USDM front end more than the JDM counterpart. After looking up parts for the Integra for her, I must say, I think I prefer the dual headlights as well.

Stance is a phase, it existed in the min truck culture in the 80's also. As far as jdm/usdm that is as simple as we want what we don't get. Japan is in a huge USDM conversion phase to the point people are taking type R civics and converting them to USDM DX models.

Build you car for you. If you like stance fine, If you want full JDM, fine. There is no right or wrong way to customize. That being said, I do agree that putting Volk stickers on Rotas is silly. I can't justify running 3000 wheels when I have a family to support. So I run Buddy Clubs that say Buddy club on them.

The stance folk figure out real quick that the look is brutal on there car. I can respect whatever you do as long as you are not a douche about it.

I just say im against all SHOW & no GO types. I cleany mod the exterior w/o going overboard. I'm one for making my car as close to what the original Honda (JDM) looks like. Jdm in my book not only meant external but Type S cams for my SH Prelude i owned from '98-'02, JDM pistons (11:1 vs 10.5:1 USDM), and other things. I'd much rather go that route than riced out which is the way kids in japan do just as much as the all show kids do here. Real jdm cars mean that the person wants to make their car look as stock in japan as it can. Wheels i only go up +1 vs. some that go +2-+3 which slows the car down if anything. I have many examples of cars I've owned and tastefully modified. I'll post if requested.

I just say to each his own.I'm of the older ilk (50+) I've been hot rodding both import and domestic cars for a long time and enjoy both.

I still watch out for the primered cars that need paint because all the money may be in the motor

I'm totally cool with 'stance.' Most of my car friends drift, as such most of them embrace the J-land aesthetic of big aero, big wheels, super low and small tires. None of them have ever had issues with their tires/camber/etc.

I dislike knockoff parts when the real version is cheap and easily had (RPF1's) but when it comes to replica body kits, I couldn't really care much less.

I used to take this stuff way too seriously; now I just want to have fun without breaking the bank.

In general honestly.

I prefer my personal cars be low key and functional, but I can appreciate the beauty and effort that is put into all different cars from ratrods to lowriders to donks to stance, VIP, kyusha, racecars. They all have their own purpose and even if it's not MY vision on purpose does not mean it's right or wrong.

Good for you Mike :daps:

Everything wrong with the automotive scene in general is people and personality related and has nothing to do with the cars being built or how they're being built. So many of the ignorant comments I see on blogs, FB, message boards just make me SMH... i've thrown in the towel years ago and just view from a distance.

I agree with both of your statements

I consider myself a very open-minded person and have friends in nearly every form of modified community and can appreciate the diversity

I just don't like people who are close-minded and will dismiss a car without really looking into the platform and being open. I normally see a person who has something negative to say about everything as more of an insecure and uninformed individual and disregard their opinion

With that being said I personally think there is no place for mods like this, this is where I draw the line

My rants are more on drivers both import and domestic equally... Cars don't do anything in static mode except perhaps please or hurt the eyes. When they start rolling on public roads, then I'm affected/involved - my safety and yours!

I'd rather see cars like that than cars where the owner took every shortcut necessary to getting into the 'scene.' Or cars where owners just follow a cookie cutter approach and don't do anything involving some sort of stylistic innovation.
