UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED: NYS Is About to Make it Even Easier for Untrained Drivers to Get Licenses

It’s enough to give you road rage: State lawmakers are making it easier for bad drivers to get licenses by allowing student drivers to take a questionable online safety course rather than the previously mandated five-hour, instructor-taught classroom session.

If someone is able to pass a written test about driving, and pass a practical test where they actually drive the car and have a licensing official in the passenger seat to observe them, that should be enough for anyone. If the quality of drivers on the road is still bad, then one of three things ought to fix it-

Make the written test harder, make the practical test harder, or issue more tickets to the people who know what they're doing and drive dangerously anyway.

We're over regulated in this country already.

 

I wonder if the recent crazed shooter in TX was thinking that? He had a gun that the law said he should not possess.
