Apparently they're not joking, Tesla has unveiled their pickup truck and it's about the weirdest thing I've ever seen on four wheels. I don't know why they didn't use the same design language as on their semi truck, because to my eye at least, that actually looks good.

Still, Elon Musk runs a car company and I don't, so maybe he's on to something. All I know is I'd never buy one.

It is ugly AF but I think it's more of a "concept" design. All other Tesla's are elegant and subtle so I would expect this to follow suit.

Like Ford's new "Mustang", it gets people talking even if it's bad talk.

 

Tesla is still small enough and specialized enough that they can build niche vehicles.
I think that product has a very specific audience.
It's NOT going to be people that want a truck..that is a truck.
It's going to be people that want the vehicle because of it's uniqueness.

It has a bed that opens up. So you can call it a truck. BUT...it's a specialized, unique vehicle that is going to appeal to people that want to drive something that will turn heads. That will definitely turn heads.
That is such an extreme design, I don't think you make that subtle.
You sell that to people that want something extreme. Want to be the first on their block, and one of the few.
If you build it, they will come.
In what numbers? That is debatable.
