Bad Honda Paint
I know this has been brought up before, but I can't believe a class
action lawsuit or recall hasn't occurred yet. How many of you have
paint on your Honda that chips like mad? My Accord is a little over 1
year old and probably has 15 chips on the hood. It's never been on
gravel, and I keep my distance from the car in front of me.
Today I noticed something odd right on the front edge of my hood. It
appears that a rock or similar object had hit it, but instead of a
paint chip coming off, part of the surrounding area had cracked and
lifted! This can't be typical of a decent paint job.
Has anyone had any luck getting a response out of your dealer or Honda?

Re: Bad Honda Paint
Weird. Mine's 11 years old, has been in one fender bender, three hailstorms
and 11 years worth of general wear and tear and the paint's incredible. Is
Honda using new/different paint these days? Or is yours silver (i.e., thin)
paint? Mine's dark red, so maybe that's just longer lasting paint. (?)
Either way, that sucks. I hope you get some help from Honda.

Try owning a Dodge from the late '80's / early '90's . . . Then you'd be
in good company :-(
No wonder Red Green gets such joy from chopping up K-cars. :-) I watch
just for the vicarious thrills.

Honda uses thick coats of paint rather than a thin layer with a
protective clearcoat.

Re: Bad Honda Paint
We're ALL screwed. With goofy formulations like latex-based clear
coat, (nothing like God intended), the paint is generally going to
suck.
If you want great paint, make sure your car comes from Japan or
someplace far, far away from the U.S. air police. They don't have to
worry about polution and do a good job with good materials.

2010 Red Fit with terrible paint!
My 2010 red Fit has 50+ paint chips (irregular shapes, so not from impacts) on the hood. It also chipped next to the gas tank when I accidentally hit it with the nozzle. It chips completely down to the metal.
I'm taking it to the dealer this week, because it's only a year old and looks terrible. I don't drive on gravel, I don't tailgate, and I rarely even get a chance to go over 40 mph (I live in DC).
I'll let y'all know what they say. Does anyone know about hardness scales, if they even use a topcoat, etc? It seems like it shouldn't be chipping down to the metal, and not so many of them!
