subaru > FIT ?????

Why are subaru's (subarii?) so favored as environmentally friendly and driven by new england liberals so much? They get like 26 mpg highway. They're really good cars and have all wheel drive but hondas seem more environemntally friendly. Maybe if honda made a four wheel or awd fit they might cross over. But fits seem more sensible unless you live in a very hilly/mmountainous and heavily snowed area.

any ideas?
thoughts?

Ive never heard that Subarus are very earth friendly....But i do think that Honda is a more enviroment friendly company for sure..But they are very diffrent cars then the Fit..So it depends on what you want/need..But i would never buy a Subaru.

Hi!

Glad to finally see someone else from WV posting on this forum. Welcome!
Lester Raines Honda had a full page ad a few months ago about selling the most envioronmentally friendly "green" vehicles. They even had a picture of the Fit and their full line of cars. It was nice to finally see the Fit in an ad from Lester Raines - I don't think they like to acknowledge that the car exist! LOL!

New England liberals are not environmentally friendly. Just look at John Kerry; 3 mansions, 3 Chevy Suburbans...Ted Kennedy against wind farms, Deval Patrick buying a big Cadilac on the tax payers expense. "Liberals" only talk the talk but when it comes down to it, they are not willing to sacrifice. Just remember one of our nation's biggest advocates of the environment was Teddy Roosevelt, a republican. Now we have Al Gore as our supposed spokeman. Unfortunately much of his data on climate change has been distorted to support his own hypothesis and validated by the Liberal mainstream media........I sold my Subaru WRX for gas expense purposes and got the Fit. I can say from a purely car enthusiasts point of view, the Fit is much more enjoyable to drive. But to think that buying this car or any car to save the environment because it gets good gas mileage is just simply naive. Perhaps just as naive as thinking that Liberals are some how the good shepards of our environment. The only thing Liberals suceed at is convincing the ignorant public that conservatives are some how the bad guys for everything.

^yeah it would be pretty sick, but they would also have to step up the horse power for sure..The Fit kinda looks like a rally car, all my friends say that anyway..I think Honda should make a "S" model and then a 210 HP AWD model, and call it the Fit Si...Ok now im dreaming lol..

Ummm ... the republicans of that time ARE NOT the same as the republicans today. They were very progressive. Just look at their deeds, voting records, etc.

The conservatives do the same. Listen to any Right-Wing loud mouth on radio or Fox News and be told that Liberals are the seed of the devil.

Please lets keep the political divisiveness off this board and lets talk about the Fit.

I had/have a '02 WRX. I didn't mod it, but I didn't drive it slowly either. It has given me 0 problems in the 60k miles I've had it. The above poster with the 04 Subaru probably got one that had been beat on, but not maintained.

Yeah, I need to get the windshield replaced, but then it goes on the market. It's a fun car. The Fit is more nimble, but the WRX is much quicker. The turbo ooomph is lots of fun, and the WRX is more relaxed on the freeway, due to the longer wheelbase and slower steering, but still corners very well, and could corner much better with a few mods.

my girlfriend has an 02 wrx as her daily driver. she's a realtor and drives all over socal; even to sell a few homes at henderson, LV (filipinos love their casinos, enough to move closer to them LoL). she drives normally, turbo doesn't usually hit full boost unless she were merging on the freeway or a persistant ricer revs on her at multiple stop lights; she usually ignores them, but occasionally stomps them to give me the giggles. there's a little over 80k miles on it now and it has not once broken on her.

subaru makes great cars. i believe that as long as they're well maintained and not driven like a race car often, they shouldn't give you any troubles.

One word: Snow

The cars before, from trips up there 25+ years ago were:

Volvo 122 Amazons and 140 cars

Saab 95/96 (1960s and 1970s, not the modern GM stuff) and 99s.

EARLY Subarus, most often with VT registrations....

It's all about image my friend, not actual facts. Subaru markets itself to the outdoor type client to begin with. Those same clients also usually tend to be more environmentally concious, but not always the smartest (they only think they are) as some of these people also drive big suv's and trucks. Because of this, the earth friendly image spills over into Subaru. Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Charles Manson, there is no distinction. If they read outdoor, nature, and travel type magazines, they know the Subaru name. Case and point I subscribe to National Geographic and National Geographic Adventure, the name alone screams environmental, yet you see adds from gas guzzlers like Range Rover in there. (Along with Subaru cars)

Subaru's earth friendliness comes more from its style of manufacturing than its product. They have led the way in low emission factory and assembly plants.

Matter of fact they just opened a plant in believe in Alabama that has zero emissions and no landfill products...everything is recycled there.

I think some ad person just put a spin on that to make it sound like the cars are better just to sell more gas thirsty rides!

whoever talked about subarus image has a good point. Subaru should make non awd cars and yes a fit SI would be sweet as hell.

the 08 STi is pure sex though.

And you can't really compare the two since it's like apples to oranges. I had a Fit then went and got an 02 WRX which I <3 more (when I drive it). It should be even funner once I get it back from the shop.
