91 Civic Problems

My 91 Honda Civic is burning oil. the mechanic said it would run another
60-80,000 miles if I kept an eye on the oil. Now everytime I drive it, it
jumps as though when you're going to slow for the gear your in, but it
does this even when it's in the right gear. The "Check Engine" light keeps
coming on. I'm afraid to drive it until I know what the problem is because
I don't want to fry it. Please help.

Pull carpet back in passenger's footwell until the computer's red LED is
exposed.

Turn ignition ON (but not to START).

Count the blinks of the red LED. There will be a sequence separated by a
long pause. The sequence may consist of any combinaiton of short and long
blinks.

One long blink means "10", one short blink means "1", so
long,short,short is error code 12.

There may be more than one code stored, so watch for a while.

Report codes here.
