Strange noise behind my 1997 Acura CL 2.2
Hello Honda & Acura experts,
There is a strange noise behind my 1997 Acura CL 2.2
It sounds like this: You know when you turn on your garden hose in
your yard, and you walk back in the house. It's that sound you hear
inside your house. Of the water running through the pipes or something
like that.
-The sound only comes on after my car reaches 15+ mph
-It seems like the sound only appears during the first 5-10 minutes of
driving. After that, it doesn't appear much.
-When the sound is gone for the most part, you will hear it again real
quick for a second when the car hits a bumpy part of the road.
Any ideas on what the problem is and what I need to do to fix this?
Thanks.

Hello,
It's my guess that there is something wrong related to the rear
suspension. The best thing to do is to take the vehicle to your favourite
mechanic and tell him the problem. Ask him to put the car on a lift and
take a close look at all of the parts related the rear suspension. I know
that damaged stock absorber mounts and also loose suspension bolts are
just two of the factors that can cause abnormal noises in the front or
rear suspension. Also, have the mechanic check the bottoms of the muffler,
catalytic converter and related pipes.

Doesn't your Owner's Manual tell you to expect to hear a noise when the
ABS system 'primes' itself, when you first speed up leaving your
driveway? I thought it was in all the Honda / Acura manuals. It sounds
like when a cat purrs loudly, and only for a few seconds at a time, right?

Curly,
I have a cat. coverter on my 99 Accord and the cat. on my car does not
purr loudly even for a few seconds. If it does--the sound is so low that I
can't hear it. I just wanted to add something that I found in my repair
manual after I made the post. Here's the exact info. from the manual:
"A low pitched rumbling noise is usually caused by a drive train bearing
and is most often associated with a wheel bearings which has been damaged
or worn. Sometimes the noise will vary when turning."
