Is it coming to the US?
Its not a bad looking little car givin the price, but the HP and max speed arent going to allow the thing much sales even with the price where it is. Scooters go faster then that.

I doubt it. I dont think it will pass any crash and safety specs. Heck it doesnt have a passenger side rear view mirror. It will have to be modified for the US market. Also the top speed of 65 wont fly unless you are looking to be yelled at on a daily basis on your commute to work by other drivers. :p :D
However if the deal goes through and Ford unloads Jaguar and Range Rover to the same company. Then technically when you buy a Jaguar going forward...its a TaTa.

I think the little Tata would be cool for around town or commute or shopping, like the Smart Fortwo. But those are both kinda extreme. Fit is a lot more general purpose.
We will never see that Tata here for $2500, that's an equivalent price in Tata's home market, if I understood correctly.

not in the u.s., obviously, but at that price with the number of lower-class indians that have a need for transportation, the Nano wil probably be the best selling car. Period. Especially if that car can honestly seat 5 people like they say it can.

I think something like this would never work here but in India where they have so many people and so little space it might work really well. It can also carry more people than a scooter and will probably get similar mpg so I think it will actually work well as the people's car in that country.
btw tata in french means homosexual;)

Tapette is the word meaning homosexual
Anyway, that's not something I would buy... I bought the Fit Sport because I wanted something cheap but equipped (air conditionning, keyless entry, mp3 playback, etc.)
I wanted something fun to drive and practical.

NO NO NO!
1) FUGLY!
2) "I WANNA GO FAST!" - Ricky Bobby
Screw that midgetmobile! Whats the point? My farts put out more than 33HP! at the flywheel, at least ;)
OF COURSE! BECAUSE ALL 4 BILLION INDIAN PEOPLE ARE GONNA GET ONE!

This is poised to be the best selling car ever.

I'm totally rooting for this car to make it, it'll shake things up. Aren't you guys getting tired paying 16000 grand for a car that would depreciate as much as the cost of this car in a year or two? Wonder how much mpg.

Actually, unfortunately most seem to miss the point.
Think back to the origin of the Volkswagen Beetle. Designed to carry a family and provide reliable transportation for use on the newly built autobahn system. Most of all, it was meant to be affordable and practical.
That is what this car is meant to be. Except, instead of 1930's Germany, it is meant for 21st Century India. This car will change that country in ways that we can't even imagine.
Think the Ford Model T for the US, plus the VW for Germany.

Well we are both French canadian from quebec so we can argue all night about tata and tapette but usually when someone says "t'es un ostie de tata" it means they are *** but in a stupid way :P
anyway nice to see some "quebecois" around here:)

It's cuter than what I expected for $2500. I like the red sporty version better than the basic white. But yeah, just looks like a SmartCar. It should do well overseas initially. Can't imagine Americans grooving on it, but you never know.
Good analogy with the VW Bug and Model T Ford. We are so out of control with our car egos. Too bad the Bug really became more a nostalgic status symbol by the time of the relaunch, it lost all utilitarian positioning. But we're so status concerned about cars here in the US. It is sad when I consider my new Fit which cost around $16,000 is considered an "economy car" by most people.
But if the Tata Nano comes to the US, the Fit will be a luxury minivan by comparison!
