Honda Fit vs. Nissan Versa
The Versa hatch was the car I wanted to get at first. I liked the roomy back seats, bigger wheels, available CVT, and heck I even liked how it looks. But I just couldn't get over the fact that the back seats don't fold flat, so I took some time to think it over. The Versa technically has more cargo room, but that hump the back seats made when it's folded down is just annoying.
Then I found out the Versa is made in Mexico at a plant some folks say is known to have production issues. And that some people were having problems starting their brand new Versa due to a defective fuel pump. (Yea, I was lurking at the Versa forums for a while.)
It was then that I saw a Fit Sport, looked totally different than the base Fit that I had previously saw. And for some reason, it felt more comfortable in the drivers seat. Was there a change from 2007 and 2008 models? Anyway, the rest is history.

Ritz, what high speed control does the Versa have and Fit does not have?
I do lots of highway driving...I know the AT would be best in the Fit, but I want the sport and speed of the 5sp.
I drove the Versa 6spd, but its rpm was way up there in the mid 3k...I didn't expect that with an extra gear. It drove smoothly, but I just didn't feel the love...

I test drove the Versa before I bought the Fit and knew from the first second I got behind the wheel that the Fit was a much better car. I did not like the handling of the Versa, the car just did not seem to turn as tight or handle is nice as the Fit. The inside is pure boring! plus the back seats don't fold flat. The more HP was a nice feature but from reading complaints from people that owned the Versa seemed like some people were having some major issues with the car being in the garage alot for repairs even at 500 miles.
Cat :x

all i know is the versa wasn't even in the running for me when i was deciding between subcompacts. personally i just found it too boring.
and a couple weeks ago i went on a versa forum and they were vicious towards the fit and honda overall.
but i guess a lot of the time we're no better towards toyota, nissan, etc. :D

anyways, it just handles better on the highway, when your going 70, it doesn't fell like your going 90, as the fit does at times on the highway. it has more of a "cruise" factor to it on the highway. potentially due to the higher horsepower, and larger wheels.
but don't get me wrong guys, i have a versa, and i never said i like it anymore than i *loved* my fit. a versa is a versa, and the fit is a bundle of joy that makes your girlfriend break up with you over. but it's ok, you still have your fit in the end.... for a little bit at least in my case:(
OK, I test drove the Versa a few times first, then after the FIRST test drive of the Fit I signed the papers. Here are my thoughts:
Fit is better because: HANDLING. INTERIOR (much superior IMO) STEREO (sounds better in the Sport model) - FEW MPG MORE - TRADITIONALLY, HONDA VEHICLES HOLD THEIR VALUE BETTER THAN NISSAN (for evidence of this, go look at the asking prices for a 2001 Civic compared to a 2001 Sentra -) - More cargo room - Less expensive - Exterior styling is better (ok again, this is a matter of opinion, but I bet if you took 10 random people who don't own either car and asked which looks better, the Fit would be chosen at least 7/10 times)
Versa better because: BIT FASTER, REAR DISC BRAKES, BLUETOOTH, Possibly more comfortable seats (matter of opinion) - Roomier back seats

I think that the Versa is a very comfortable car, spacious within, and has good attributes. Actually, though, it is only in North America where the Versa (Tiida) is considered together with the Fit and Yaris. The Versa actually competes more with the Civic, Corolla, etc. in the rest of the world. It is no surprise that the Versa feels different from the Fit because of the difference in the targeted market segment.
We prefer the Fit for its utility, handling, and good mileage, but can live with a Versa too. In fact, we drove a Tiida in Japan, and were very happy with it.

Yeah at least we can give the Versa respectable points when we do our analysis...not only that, other comparisons have always rated the Fit above the competition...those Versa guys are just bitter hahaha...

i also checked on the versa forum, and i don't think i'd fit in their crowd, i'll stay in here, and gradually post stuff i've done in the off topic thread *cha cha*.
I posted up my comparison between the Honda and the Nissan a while back, a quick summary on my conclusion;
The Positives:
1) The price was good,
2) Nissan has a good reliability history
3) Hey a 6 speed and more HP is always nice
The negitives:
1) The manual shifter, while it was a 6 speed felt mushy and didn't feel very slick at all. I have driven 80's mustangs with better feeling tranny's
2) I felt very closed in, and it had bad visibility. This was a major factor in my decision.
3) Cheap construction, you can see the seam lines everywhere. The fabrics feel cheap and the over use of plastics kill the feeling in the car. It just feels cheap and low budget.
4) The reving engine problem, the engine revs when you shift. At first I thought I was holding the gas while I pushed in the clutch, however after it started bothering me I realized the car would do it without any gas even a few seconds before you enguage the clutch.... very annoying and tacky.
5) Lets face it, the car is Fugly. I tested them back to back and the Honda was the clear winner.
Anyway, no disrespect. I call em like I see em. I could see the Versa being a nice car to do a lot of highway driving in. But for city & spirited driving the Honda is a much better choice.

I like my "No Tune Up until 100,000 miles" and oil changes at about every 5,000 miles or so. I don't even think the oil filter runs at 100% on the fit since it's the same oil filter as civics, and some other acuras which have bigger engines. Dunno bout the Versa though. I dunno bout the versa though, are they using same oil filter as Mazda 3?
