Honda Fit vs. Nissan Versa

haha. wtf? we all like that kind of stuff, but we keep it off the forum. funny though
the thing i could describe the versa to when driving in the city is as follows... "you know when you have a bunch of crap in your car, and you go through the turns easier so nothing falls over or hits your face or genitals? that's what the versa is like in the city."-Ritzbury Mahaughn-Noodle
anyways, it just handles better on the highway, when your going 70, it doesn't fell like your going 90, as the fit does at times on the highway. it has more of a "cruise" factor to it on the highway. potentially due to the higher horsepower, and larger wheels.
but don't get me wrong guys, i have a versa, and i never said i like it anymore than i *loved* my fit. a versa is a versa, and the fit is a bundle of joy that makes your girlfriend break up with you over. but it's ok, you still have your fit in the end.... for a little bit at least in my case:(

Thanks for your honest opinion.:vtec:

with the thread dead, i will add that they are both great cars, the fit is a little bit more stylish. the versa is more designed for old people. ie: better highway shit, and more "relaxed" styling.
soon though, soon my versa will turn heads hopefully.... but then again, when you always bump to the beastie boys, your always turning a few heads

I've been a Nissan owner since '93, with a hardbody. Bought the first crewcab in '00 and replaced it in '06 to get the 4.0 VQ engine and the nismo off-road package (great truck btw). When it came to buy an econo ride, I couldn't even look at the versa, fugly had found a new mascot.

Fit is better than Versa.
I can't understand how people believe Versa handles better at high speed than a Fit. First, when it comes to acceleration... 45 to 65 in a Versa is 5.9 seconds versus 6.5 seconds on the Fit. Certainly, not earth-shattering in either car. In emergency manuvering the Versa tops at 52 mph, while the Fit speed is 56 mph, comparable to a new Corvette. The stopping distance from 60 mph in a Fit is 134 feet versus a whopping 163 feet in a Versa. When it comes to highway driving, manuvering and stopping, in my opinion, are the most important characteristics. As for resale, the Versa will never come close to the Fit. And when you add to this the mere fact that the 2007 Fit has had no problems while the 2007 has had major problems with the power equipment, I think, we'll be seeing more of that in years to come. As far as looks, I can take either, but I like the storage capability in the Fit. And the Fit gets better gas mileage. Fit by a country mile... No question.
I haven't driven a Versa, but I can easily imagine how it'd feel more relaxed for long highway trips. The Fit requires a lot more attention with its quick steering and short wheelbase on choppy freeways. It feels a lot less susceptible to crosswinds since I put the rear sway on it, and now is actually pretty relaxed to drive in, but without the sway I was having to spend a lot of attention to hold my lane nicely. My old WRX was a much better long distance touring car in that respect.

while i do like the fit better, i just wanted to point out that what you posted really has nothing to do with better handling at high speed. handling and acceleration are 2 different things. i think the general consensus is that the versa is more 'stable' at high speeds.
there are 07 fits with issues too. no car is without them, even honda's. this attitude is the reason non honda guys like to bash us pro-honda guys, because they are under the impression that we think are cars are perfect and without fault. well, welcome to the real world.
its interesting that you posted this.
i was reading not to long ago on edmunds that nissan is really re-vamping their nismo division, to jump on the current trend of offering factory mods to new car drivers.
the picture showed a jdm versa, all nismoed out. it looked substantially better than what is offered here.
there is a dealer close to my house that ordered some se-r logos, bought cheesy looking body kits and huge 18 wheels and slapped them on a few versas. they called it 'the se-r' package. lame. but funny to have witnessed.
the stable ride most versa owners feel is mostly due to weight. the layout of the car also adds to the illusion of it being a 'bigger, real car'. but its simply more softly sprung than the fit, and isnt tuned for sport.
your c class to 3 series comparo was spot on, though i would go a step further and maybe say lexus is to 3 series. (being as how the new C is quite nice!:) )

I have both cars, both automatics. In short:
Versa has way more conveniences like multidisc CD, glasses and cell phone pockets/drawers than Fit.
Versa has much better interior color choices
Versa has much more rear seat room than Fit.
Versa CVT gets equal mpg with Fit auto mostly due to less shifting
Versa accelerates a trifle faster and has little more top speed. If Nissan comes out with Versa SE-R as rumored Fit will fall way way back.
Fit handles much better like comparing Buick to Mini
And last but not least Fit has a huge aftermarket compared to Versa especially things like rear discs, forced induction (a 150 hp Fit). but both have good wheel/tire choices.
The much extra rear seat room is likely reason for Versa outselling Fit almost 2 to 1.

Thanks for the great observations. Good to hear from someone who has up-close experience with both cars. By the way, just one thing:

The reason why there have been more Versas being sold is simply that fewer Fits have been made available in North America. It's a supply issue. Basically, every single Fit that has been shipped to this market has been sold, and if Honda had shipped more, they would have sold more.
In our area, I see plenty of Versas in the dealer lots, but Fits are almost never seen at dealerships. When my wife and I were looking at cars in this class, we could have walked on and picked a Versa and driven off on that day. OTOH, we had to wait for four months for our Fit to arrive.

and i always see TONS of versas when driving around, and rarely ever see fits.
I agree on limited deliveries ofFits but Honda has likely controlleed toward off discounting. Still, the reason more people are choosing Versa it has more room and easier driving. Few would know the difference between Buick and Mini handling and probably like the Buick handling better.
If you want to feel bad check the specs on the European Jazz compared to the US version.

Recently, I test drove both the versa and fit (2x). The versa has more power and feels more comfortable especially rolling down the highway but the fit is easier and more fun to drive with the MT. It was -35 here and the fit started right away. However, while driving it with 3 in the car we could not get the side windows defogged even though it was blowing tones of hot air. This never happened to me when I test drove with just myself in temp's that were the same. The fit is fun to drive and the MT gear shift is easy to shift although sometimes you could shift into the wrong gear easier. Also, there is tonnes of storage space in the back with the rear seats down. The versa on the other hand would not start as the battery was dead. The dealer had to boost it and let it run for awhile. Driving the versa you could feel that it had slightly more power and it felt more like a bigger car and was more comfortable on the highway. Shifting the MT was noticeably harder than on the Fit - it was way more work and would probably be better to get an AT versa. I did not like the interior styling of the versa as much. After driving the versa for about 20 minutes i brought it back to the dealer and as soon as i shut it off the battery was dead again. We could not even open the rear hatch. The deal breaker for me though is the big hump when the rear seats fold down in the versa. It's a horrible design for a hatchback because you can not easily slide things into the back.
