Forgot to add, if I remember correctly, the R32 had a faster track time too (much to Jeremy's amazement).

They should of thrown the 08 STI in the mix--its a hatch back.
Its cheaper than both costing around 25,000.

What sucks even worse (at least for us) is we can't get the VW in Canada :(

Be nice if they compared it to the 135 instead, so you could do a more apples to apples comparison, where the BMW would win quite easily. Be a little more expensive in the US (2 grand), but worth the bump, imho. Not to mention a real manny.

Id rather just save up a bit more and get the EVO MR or STI or even the 3rd gen supra and have extra money to fix it up looking nicer...

personally, i hate when threads like this get posted and people start spewing what THEY would rather have for their money.

go make your own thread.:)

the new r32, while it has its limits, is an incredible grip machine. it just hangs on to corners tenaciously. Body lean? oh yeah. But it is not going ANYWHERE.

the new STI? ha ha, good luck finding one for 25k!:rotfl: Maybe in a few years!

I love this video. And i'd love me an R32. The last C/D comparo that consisted of the new evo, new sti, and this, actually put the r32 second place. but that was more from a preference standpoint than all out performance.

According to them though, the new r32 is just as fast if not faster than the old one, even with the extra weight and only 10hp bump. Impressive. and they said that it put up grip numbers ALMOST on par with the new evo and sti....with ALL SEASON TIRES.

Damn.

how is it a more apples to apples comparison? even the uber expensive R32's pricetag is dwarfed by the 1 series. And the r32 is worlds more practical.

both of the ones tested has 3.0+ v-6's and they were hatchbacks in the same niche. and dont assume that turbo automatically =victory.

Hmmm. 135 base w/transportation $35,675. R32 w/transporation $33,640. Difference of $2,035, or a 6% increase (or, like I'd do, the 135 would be actually cheaper with European Delivery). I'm not sure I'd call that "dwarfing" the R32, honestly.

An apples to apples comparison would involve testing the top of the line offerings from both against each other. Since that would be the 135 vs. the R32 now, to me, this seems an out-of-date comparison that TG did. BTW - Jeremy LOVES the 135, if you've kept up on the show.

I'll definitely agree with you on practicality, and would love to see a 135 hatch offered here at some point; I'd be more interested in that that the 2-passenger coupe. Though, as it is now, I'd still get the 135. Faster, more color options, true manny, and hopefully, fewer electrical gremlins.

YMMV, of course. :)

EDIT: I had the price wrong. I thought the STI was cheaper than it is, but it starts at roughly $35K, $2K more than the R32. If it were between those two cars and i wasn't modifying them, I'd pick the R32 easily. The STI is quicker, but the R32 is far classier.

The R32s understeer is pretty irritating. at least in the one I drove. it's still a FWD-biased AWD system. While it's good, I'd just go buy an EvoX and smoke em both on the road course.

Actually under acceleration i am 95% sure it is a RWD biased car.

I did not know that. I know the car is able to transfer 100% of its torque front or rear during slip, but I was under the impression the Haldex system was still FWD in the R32. I knew at some point it had changed over to more of a rear bias, but I didn't realize it was that early in production. Thank ya much, good sir :wavey:

I had assumed the same thing until my buddy bought one and i beat the living sh!t out of it for him :D. It seems to be rear biased to me, but I could be wrong. Besides the new R32 is an 08...that's pretty current.
