What glue for door upholstry?

The upholstry fabric on the inside of my doors ('91 Accord) is falling
down. I have tried 3M spray adhesive. It works for a couple of weeks
then breaks down. The problem, I think is the vinyl I'm trying to
stick the fabric too is very slick.

I have the same problem with my 90 Accord. I've tried 3M 90, 3M 77,
Contact Cement. Nothing holds that stuff on.

The research I did indicated that the plastic panel may be what they
call Low E material. It is very difficult to get anything to bond to
it.

I'm going to try 3M hi-tack 76 next week end. 3M info indicates it
may be the best they have in the aresol cans that might work with a
Low E plastic. Will report if I have any luck. Of course you don't
know until a couple of weeks to a couple of months when it normally
starts to fall off again whether you have been successful.

I may also try to put a line of epoxy in the perimeter groove, see if
that helps.

When patching tires, they have to rough up the surface of the rubber
with a wire brush or sandpaper so the glue can stick to the 'scratches'.
It's the same with adhesives and plastic / vinyl. Use some sandpaper on
the smooth part, paint both surfaces lightly with contact cement and LET
DRY for a several minutes (instructions on can). Assemble. Jet it
straight, since it's going to be forever.
