1988 Accord LX
I have a 1988 Honda Accord LX 5spd. Carb., 206k miles on the clock. The car
has
been an excellent vehicle. Bought it used in 1991 w/ 88k mi. My problem is
with the A/C.Can't get it to come on. The blower works but that's
it.Shouldn't one of the rad fans come on when the blower switch is on? I
can't get the compressor to come on either.I bought one of those refill kits
from Wal-Mart, it took 3/4 of the first can and now the guage says it's over
charged. PLEASE HELP. I'M BURNING UP HERE IN S.C.

Re: 1988 Accord LX
what did you refill with?
The AC in the 88 Honda takes R-12 freon, I don't think you can buy it off
the self in Wal-Mart anymore. Unless you upgraded your AC system to use
the newer R134a Freon.
Could be low on freon or have a leak.
High pressure switch maybe bad preventing circuit to engage AC compressor.

Well , the refill kit says it's compatible with both systems and converts
the system to R-134A.I did find the clutch relay bad yesterday, everything
is coming on now. I got 2 and 3/4 cans into it, it's still not cooling.
Could something be clogged in the system? Thanks for the help. I have the
instuctions for the kit scanned in if you'd like to see them.

Don't trust the lables. Strictly speaking you need to replace all the
seals in the system, the expansion valve, the compressor and
receiver/drier and you need to flush all the old oil out with solvent.
If you don't then you'll likely end up with "black death" like this guy.

Re: 1988 Accord LX
Thanks for the reply. I'am gonna have to replace the compressor. The die that
was in the kit is all over the compressor.Hopefully I can hold out 'till
next spring. I'm dreading taking that sucker off.
