Bought a Versa...

...and no I did not replace my fit.

My wife's Wrangler was having issues again and we dumped another 600 bux to fix it. On the way to pick it up we stopped at Nissan to see what they had. We already went to Toyota and they had nothing. Honda had a few M/T fits but we really wanted an auto since I already have an M/T.

We found an 08 black versa SL sedan with CVT with tan interior and the wife really liked it. After going through the usual bullshit with the dealer we got the car for a little over $100 above invoice (166654).

I preferred the hatchback but the sedan was the only one with tan interior. The only thing that I didn't like was nissan making ABS as an optional package (which the car didn't have). If you are considering a versa, don't bother with the S, the seats are shitty.

take it back and get a Mazda 3 or something if you can't find a Fit
i've heard a couple horror stories about the Versa.

sorry not to bash your buy, congratulations
it's just the Versa makes me nervous.

Mazda = Ford = Shitbox
I've owned fords and have never been happy. My wife's dad worked for Ford and also said never buy anything from FoMoCo. My mom had a nissan for a while and never had an issue.

I was worried about the CVT which is why i got an extended warranty in case I have a problem.

So you couldn't find what you wanted and then you settled on one of the ugliest cars on the market instead? I'm sure you could have found the car you were looking for if you looked a little harder.

Last I heard Nissan "outsourced" the Versa from some French company it bought, which has an ever worse trackrecord than Ford... But hey it's your wife's decision and if she likes it than that's all that matters.

IMO Nissan's reliability can only be topped by Honda. My parents gave me a 1994 Nissan Pick-up when I was in high school and it already had about 99,000 miles on it. I drove the hell out of that thing for about 6 years. I got rid of it when the odometer was closing on 300,000 miles and the only major repairs made were a new cluch and radiator.

The Versa might not look the best, but it'll be on the road long after the Mazda 3s and the like have vanished.

Oh, and my dad has an 08 Altima with CVT and about 60,000 miles (he has a 120 mile round-trip to work and drives a route around L.A. five days a week) and the car still runs like new, no issues at all.

Actually Renault bought Nissan, not the other way around. And Renault makes some great cars with a great track record. I'd totally be down for some Renault cars over here including the Megane and Clio in the Renaultsport package!!!

Hmm, someone must've had something wrong then. I forgot where I read it might've been here or 8thcivic. I do love Clios though :D.

The nissan versa is based on the renault megane which is their most widely used platform so I think I'm OK. The V6 clio is an awesome car and i wish nissan would've brought it here.

I would've looked harder for the fit but nissan had a better financing rate (2.9% for 5 years). Honda wouldve given me 7-9%.

My wife wants tints so I told her if she get tints then I could get tints. So its all good for me and the fit.

i still have datsuns but a friend of mine works at nissan and says if it wasnt for warranty work they wouldnt be too busy. i do think its mostly pathfinders and trucks they have problems with, he cant keep track of how many cvt's in pathfinders he has replaced

Let us know how it goes. I like the extra space and power in the Versa compared to the Fit.

Ditto for the cvt in the Murano. The are lucky to get 60,000 miles out of them.

No ABS?! That's exactly why I bought the Fit. All my previous Saturns had ABS as an option as well, which I didn't like. ABS was one of the main reasons I went to Honda, ever since I had that accident where ABS could have made a difference. But then again, I might not be driving the Fit if I did not mess up my old car.

Anyway, I'm sure the Versa is more fuel efficient than the Jeep. :)

I'm actually strangely attracted to the sedan Versa in the same sense that I thought the 1st gen. Prius was sexy. I don't know, some weird cars look bomb to me.

Congrats on the purchase. If the interior was tan leather I'd be jizzing harder. The Versas little more HP is nice, although my friend who has a Versa drives like a slug! :b

The jeep was averaging 10mpg (mostly city driving) with 89octane. With the cheap stuff it was getting 8mpg; so it's a huge improvement.
