Another take on prices
My readings from various other sites , TVTEC, Honda preview and Edmunds have Fit starting around 12K and closer to (or over) 15K for the S.
Also visit Honda UK and do a little currency conversion. Their 1.4 non VTEC "S - like" model is close to 16K U.S.

Yes, Canada has the 4-door Yaris hatchback (at a higher price than the 2-door). http://yaris.ca/ has pictures.
I am hoping the Honda is priced reasonably (and my old car holds out long enough) because I want the utility space of the Fit. The Yaris has very little space with the rear seat up, and doesn't even have a split rear seat on anything but the overpriced sport model.

I looked at the Canadian site for Yaris, and now I know whay they won't import it to the US....it would compete with the Scion xA. Same engine, 4 door, etc. It does look better as a 4 door, and more practical too.

I'm really looking forward to the Fit being sold here in Canada. I've been considering the Yaris for a while, only because of the fuel economy cause I would never go for a Toyota usually since after driving different models, though their construction and reliability can't be questionned, they are incredibly boring to drive. But now that I know about the Fit....
From what I can see up until now, the Fit has more storage, more standard equipment, more power and better fuel economy on highways. Plus the soundsystem is superior and you can plug your iPod in it.
The decesive point will be the price and the interest rate as Honda are knowned to have higher prices and interest rates on their cars, here in Quebec at least.
But I have a lot of faith in the Fit.

I've also been looking at the Yaris as a replacement for an aging car I have now. I like its fuel economy, but I don't like the lack of space with the rear seat up (the previous Echo was better there) and I don't like the fact that it doesn't even have a split rear seat without spending $2K on stuff I don't want. But I still might get one if the old car dies before spring, or if Honda's price is high.
However, even the top end of the US price estimate (base $14K) translates to around $16.5K, which is the same as the equivalent Yaris here (5-door with optional ABS, air, etc.). So it seems unlikely that the Fit will be priced higher than that, unless Honda really want to screw Canadians (and themselves). But it makes no sense to have a third trim level (below the US base) just for Canada unless it's to compete with the base Yaris and the Koreans.

Great discussion here - glad to see it.
Honda Canada has already indicated there will be three trim levels in Canada - DX, LX and Sport.
