Don't bother. Too much work and those clutches do suck.

Worth the cost and effort?

Here's my situation, I recently discovered that my family still has a 1968 convertible VW Bug that has been passed around various aunts and uncles. The car is just sitting in a garage doing nothing. It's been that way for a good 10 years or so. Paint and body are in great shape. No one want's to drive it because they all hate the stiff clutch in it.

My dad said that if I were to ask my aunt would probably sell it to me.

SO do you think it would be worth the time and effort? She would probably sell it cheap too.

Uncertain as to how much the repairs would be but it would sure be a fun project.

From what I've heard, they are very easy to work on. I say go for it. I've also heard that certain Porsche motors are an easy swap......

Don't know the condition of the VW, but it sounds like it's in good shape, and you're up for a project they're great cars. I have a '69 bug that we've had for 20+ yrs, it's fun to drive, our clutch is loose (sloppy) at best. It'll be the car I teach my kids to drive a manual on because it's so easy to shift. Parts are cheap and accessible, manuals are also easy to come by.

Good luck...

If you're into Bugs, go for it. Otherwise, maybe buy it and sell it to a worthy enthusiast.

Go for it! You could restore it and probably sell it at a decent profit if you decide not to keep it.

^^^ HAHAHAH. ban!!! I just LOL'ed at work. Anywho, yeah if you're into bugs than go for it. But i would go for the Z. Eventhough I dont drive one anymore i'm still a devoted Nissan fan, Nissans are just so buff, and oldschool Z's are gangster!

I think both sound like great projects. I am more of a fan of the Z myself, but I do have to show love for the convertible bug as well. They make really good project cars and show very well. For christ sake its a bug. Who doesnt love a beetle? The Z is just more of a car guys car.

GO FOR THE BUG TOTALLY!!!! I've gone thru my share of air cooled VW's and still have quite a passion for them. Have an engine I'm gonna rebuild in my garage for the last , I dunno 20 YEARS!! One of these days I'm just going to do it. Type 3 engine with the layflat cooling arrangement for a project car they don't manufacture anymore.
