1993 Ford Mustang LX - should I buy it?

I have the chance to buy a 1993 Ford Mustang (fox body) with the 2.3L four banger in it. The price is $900 and has 89,000 actual miles on it. The car is in good shape. Needs new tires (dry rot from being in garage) and the driver seat is broken (we actually have the seat for it, need to install). The sunroof doesn't leak. It's a freinds car, so I know the motor and trans are sound. Just not sure if I wanna buy it or wait for a Honda to pop up (I'm looking for a daily so I can stop putting so many miles on my Fit. 42,000 in 15 months!). Only problems with the outside is needs new door handles ($30 at autoparts store), and the hood cowl/vent is broken ($10 at the junk yard). Should I buy this or wait? I really want a 1990-1993 (DB I think) or 94-96 (DC) Integra. All the DB and DC Integras in my price range are JUNK and not worth it. I thought about buying the Mustang, driving it and then selling it when I find the Integra I want. The private party value on this Mustange according to KBB is roughly $1500 in fair condition (I this one is actually in good condition). I live in a town full of rednecks and this car will sell in my town for a bit more.

I wouldn't buy it. It ain't a Mustang unless it's a V8.

But $900! I think I could flip it and make a few hundred. More opinions needed please!

back in the mid 80's the SVO trim was the fastest available Mustang and it was a boosted 2.3L four banger :P

but i agree with everyone else.. nobody will buy a 4cyl. mustang now a days, probably part of the reason your friend has had it collecting dust in his garage for so long. i would wait, save the cash, then buy the DA or DC that you want.

I found a 1993 Integra GS on a car lot in town, but it had been rattle canned black. I suspect to hide the fact that it had been Frankenstein'd back together after a wreck.

Ya'ar be frame damage on that ship.

The 2.3L motor is a piece of garbage. Oil pressure problems, rod knocks, the list goes on ad nauseum. Or the cam goes and takes out the entire head. Stay away from the car.

If you got the cash to rebuild it do it, A 4 cylinder Mustang isn't bad but it's not what everyone wants in a mustang. If you think you can flip it around and sell for more then what's the problem? It's a 93 so if you have any kind of problems you can always hit up the local junkyard and find your parts.... You said you were looking for a DA or a DC, well good luck finding one in stock or good condition for a low price. If you're gonna make the mustang the daily driver and daily driver only then my opinion is to get it, It may not be V8 beast, but it will be good on gas and unlike the DA or DC integra, you won't have to worry about people trying to steal it.

I say go for it. it's gutless whether it's a four banger or a v8 when it comes to stock foxbodys so who cares. Im sure if you fix it up a little and have it to the point where someone can put a sweet motor in it you can make a little bit of money... til then you'll have a cheap dd

Those make good platforms to build up and throw a V8 in since everything fits and the parts are cheap and or a dime a dozen. I would get it if you were planning on building it up or if you think you could make a few dollars off of it. Otherwise, there are better daily drivers.

I wouldn't touch that car with a 10ft. pole.

Do NOT buy it. Unless it's for $500 or less.

I found a 92 Integra with a good body, but a bad head gasket for $400. Maybe I should get that instead? Or get that AND the Mustang, sell the Mustang for $1300 ($400 under blue book) and put my $400 profit towards a B16A swap for the Integra?
