The Genesis or the Fit?
The Genesis or the Fit?
Some of you may know me as I've been wandering around the site for like 2 years or something and have yet to buy the fit. Lately I've been looking through the Genesis forums and have been looking at some purrty sexy cars.. I've wanted a Fit for years now and am starting to think about maybe getting the Genesis instead.
I know that they're two completely different cars and impossible to compare but today I will do just that.
FIT: Rediculous versatility, ample storage, MPG's are sky high, Like the styling a lot, very modifiable.
GENESIS COUPE: Sexy styling, much quicker, still decent MPG's.
I seem to be second guessing my love for the Fit because I'm afraid I'll get bored of the lack of power, but at the same time I'm a pretty conservative driver in the first place. Also, I'm not a big fan of the limited amount of storage capabilities of the Genesis. I had an Integra and it seems like the Hyundai is probably going to have about the same amount.
Any insight on the topic?

i think it depends on how long you wanna keep the car. if you plan on reselling it in 2-3 years, get the fit. better resale value. the genesis is nice, but i think the value of the car will drop like a rock.
but i do admit, it looks nicer..sorta like a g37. buttt it depends on which one you plan to get....v6 or the turbo one. also consider your finance. fit is a lot cheaper than a genesis coupe. so that might be a factor.
both are nice cars. ill be happy with either.

i've owned an integra and now have a Fit and have been lurking gencoupe.com and other genesis sites for info on the car.
I must say the car looks very tempting but for me i decided to stick with the Fit for a few more years and then look at the GC. The car does lack interior cargo space compared to both my previous cars but makes up for it in hp/torque numbers. I was looking at the V6, which were you going for? I've heard the V6 has almost the same MPG numbers as the turbo 4cylinder.
Whatever you decide on, make sure you have the $$ for the maintenance/insurance as well as the price of the car. This was the main factor for me not to go with it, plus RWD in snowy NY winters will suck.

It really depends on your priorities as quite obviously they are very, very different cars.
Personally the Genesis is very nice. Didn't like a few details at first (headlights were a bit dodgy) but over time its appeal grew on me. Certainly not the best choice if you have only one car though - best to have it as a second car methinks.
The Genesis Coupe 2.0T might be more desirable from a modification perspective, as they say its engine is a relative of the famous Mitsubishi 4B11T mill - the same lump that powers the Lancer Evo X.
If you've got only enough money to splurge on one car, the Fit still wins the vote.
Kind of a heart vs. head decision you got there...let us know what you get in the end :D

the genesis is an amazing car, i had a tib for a super long time and have learned just how far hyundai has come in quality and reliability. my v6 tib held 8 psi daily for over a year before i decided to trade it on a z.
i then was in the same position as you, i didnt like the z very much so i was going to trade it on something and i had narrowed it down to the fit or a gen coupe. because i already have an 88 mustang to go fast in i bti the bullet and made a wise choice and went with the fit for a daily.
the bk (chassis code for the gen coupe) is an awesome platform. id air on the side of the 4 cylinder turbo. it shares many of the features of the 4b11t in the evo x and (best of all in my opinion) has thicker rods and a square bore to stroke ratio which means with head modifications and proper engine management you can rev it to the moon. as was said previous the block can handle some pretty heavy boost even though it is all aluminum, and it only runs on a few pounds from the factory. You also have support from names like buschur racing, hks, and seoulfulracing before the car was even released and with rhys millen setting records in them you will have an awesome platform in the future to build on.
the fit is already a good platform to play with but it isnt really a hardcore performance platform unless you want to dump thousands into it. but there are so many other pluses to the fit, versatility, gas mileage, comfort etc.
i own the fit and have driven the gen, biggest drawback i found was a sloppy shifter and mushy clutch in the gen, but it can be fixed with mods. i love my fit to death and its great as a daily driver...hope ive shed some insight into your decision...

as I said I'll probably still end up w the fit, I wasjust looking for some opinions to see what others thought. I know that the fit isn't exactly a power hugry beast of a car and that's not really what I would expect from a budget mindee hatchy. And I know about the engine in the gencoupe and that's all good and fun but in the end it would be my daily and wouldn't want to start modding the hell out of because sometime mucho mucho mods means less reliability.. I still have some time to think about my final decision as I am just waiting for everything to go through with the coast guard until I get the car.
Driving the Fit gives me a feeling of not only driving a well made automobile but also driving one that is very economical to operate. I'm sorry but the Genesis is just a repeat of other cars being offered in the market place. If you want to consider a coupe that seems unique and different, look at the prototype Toyota FT-86.
