Hybrid CRV and Fit!
Honda CR-V and Fit hybrids confirmed
09 May 06 14:56
Channel4.com reports that Honda is to offer a hybrid version of its Fit (Jazz) supermini from 2007, according to Hybridcars.com.
A Honda insider told the website that the Fit can perfectly accommodate the powertrain from the hybrid Insight two-seater, as it has the same front track (width between the front wheels).
The 1.0-litre petrol engine, combined with electric motors, is said to produce fuel consumption of 50-55mpg in the Fit. Pricing for this car, which will allow Honda to discontinue the slow-selling and impractical Insight, is estimated at $15,000-17,000, making this petrol-electric hybrid more accessible than the Toyota Prius or Honda's own Civic Hybrid. Sales outside the US have not yet been confirmed, however.
A more likely prospect for UK and European sales is a hybrid version of the new-generation CR-V. Hybridcars.com reports that this model, to feature the same powertrain as the recently-launched Civic Hybrid, will go on sale in the US towards the end of this year. It may not come in right-hand drive form, however, unless it is built alongside the conventionally-engined CR-Vs in the factory at Swindon, England, rather than with the Civic Hybrid in Japan. A hybrid version of its sister model, the Acura RDX, is also expected.

This is old news.
More current news says NO hybrid CR-V.
Also, Insight will no longer be produced and Honda will introduce a 4 door replacement. It has not been confirmed whether or not this affordable hybrid will be a Fit Hybrid or a entirely new model.

Actually, Honda made it clear that there will not be a Fit hype-brid sold in the US as part of its press release for a new US plant in the midwest....

The Fit held up in a real crash!

I saw two Storm Silver Fits on Friday. Unfortunately I was carpooling, not driving my own SSF, or I would have honked and waved! First Fits I've seen on the road.

Fit for Safety
The Fit's body architecture is designed to offer an active and smart appearance that is aerodynamically sleek, highly rigid and designed for enhanced levels of safety performance. The use of high-tensile strength steel in 36% of Fit's body and exclusive tailor welded blank construction allows the Fit to be relatively lightweight and maintain a high level of structural rigidity that benefits vehicle handling and safety performance. Engineers have designed Fit to achieve a 5-star NHTSA frontal crash test rating and "Good" ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in both the offset frontal and side impact tests conducted by the agency.
