What vehicle tickles your need for speed?

So, most of us have Fits as economical runabouts, but it's a slow ride. For those who care to tickle it, what other vehicle do you own for those times when you need to "go to plaid?"

Mine is the Ninja - ~4 sec to 60 and a 12 sec quarter mile isn't fast by motorcycle standards, but it'll do for a mere mortal such as me.

I remember seeing a few posts before mentioning Vettes, a Nissan Z, and a few other bikes? Anyone up for show and tell?

Not to derail this thread too much (pun intended) but tell us more about those slot cars! Are those just diecast models converted, or what? Is there a thread about them?

They are 1/32nd slot cars. Almost $45 or so each. Ran soso. I change to aluminum wheels with inserts but still not the greatest. I ended up getting some used Scaley Minis and am using their chassis now. They are GD. No GE so far.

The rear of the white one on the left is 1/24th. These are static plastic kits - Tamiya brand. Lots on Ebay. I converted a red one to a slot car.

If you want more info PM or go to my site and look at my track etc.

I'm so conflicted.

I've long felt I would absolutely love riding a motorcycle. The idea of the speed, the being in the open...really appeals to me. More than driving a fast car.

But ever since I saw "Lawerence of Arabia" I've known I'd kill myself on a motorcycle. Seriously....I know my strengths and weaknesses...it's a mechanical animal farm chant for me,- 2 wheels bad...4 wheels good.

However, I'm jealous. I'd love to go 0-60 in 4 seconds....it's the 7 and 8th second when I'm heading towards the light at the end of the tunnel that I'm worried about. Probably lengthen my life driving the "slow" but agile Fit.

If "I wanna go Fast" it's got to be in something that allows me to sit down and be surrounded by airbags. And really I regret that....

the only thing that i can say to that is just "Grab life by the horns!" (there is a Dodge ad that i am looking at right now :) ) but no seriously, your life is what you make of it, it can be fun, boring, or anywhere in between. I have already determined that i am most likely going to die while doing something fun/dangerous... something will go wrong while i am rock climbing, or skiing, or sky diving, or something. So, I am going to get a motorcycle, and i am going to love it right up until i hit the pavement and cannot get up. Moral of the story thing: live life to the fullest, have fun, and never, ever grow up. :vtec:

I know this might sound really weird but i felt pretty safe on my bike. Sometimes safer than my car.

Now-a-days my Z06. :)

I used to ride a lot too. Bikes are a whole different world of speed. This is me on a local track:

Thanks for the advice. And it's good advice I know.

I think I'm in the midst of a pretty severe psychological mid-life crisis.

I figure in the next 30 years my mobility is likely to go from whatever it is today, to my "Mods" being deciding what Tennis Balls I install on the bottom of my walker.

Oh well. One day your running with the bulls, the next day your dragging your colonostomy bag behind you.

I have a WRX in addition to the fit. I am on the hunt for another EVO currently, or potentially a 135i depending on which car i find first, that is up to my standards :)

I can relate to that. When I had my Element, the difference was night and day - the visibility was so much better on the bike, as well as the emergency handling. I still feel better able to avoid a collision on the bike. Besides that, the experience tends to keep your senses on red alert.

yea the mobility and the visibility was a big factor in me feeling safe. Plus i took safety classes before i got my M1 so i'm pretty prepared for most situations. The only time i didn't feel safe was going 150mph spanking a porsche. And i had to have my dampers set on hardest.

I'LL PLAY ALONG I SUPPOSE, FOR ME I ALWAYS FELT THAT WHEN I BOUGHT MY 2010 FIT M/T I GOT A QUICKER CAR THAN MY 07 SPORT A/T, EVEN THOUGH I KNEW IN MY HEAD THEY ARE BOTH SLOW, COMPAIRED TO THE CRX THATS BEEN IN THE ENGINE REBUILD STAGE OF ITS LIFE FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 5 YEARS. THEN THE ENGINE WAS DONE AND THE TRACK DAY OPENED UP ALL IN TWO WEEKS TIME https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/utah...tml#post886220. ITS A BLAST EVEN IF THE BOOST IS ONLY AT 7PSI FOR NOW IT'S JUST FINE! AND AFTER DRIVING TO SOCAL LAST WEEK (12HR DRIVE WITH NO CRUISE) IT'S SITTING IN THE GARAGE, I SUPPOSE THE ITCH WILL GET ME IN A WEEK OR SO AND I'LL TAKE HER OUT AGAIN, HELL I MAY EVEN TAKE HER AND BUY HER A NICE AND SHINY NEW BOOST CONTROLLER, AND T U R N I T U P!

I have a Toyota MR2 turbo for my need for speed, but I don't need so much, I'd rather have a Honda beat, so the power of the fit is enough (especially compared to my civic wagon 4wd 1987).

My need for speed has been answered several times in my past. One was a 1971 Corvette convertible and the other was a 1987 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet. Currently my 2002 Miata does more than enough.

Speed

For me it's not always about all out speed. Getting there can be a lot of fun. Below are a few in order of ownership

95 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
94 Eagle TSI (SPL Competition Vehicle)
85 Civic Si Hatch
89 Civic Si Hatch w/95 Si SOHC VTEC
69 Porsche 911T
87 Porsche 944S
84 911 Carrera Cabriolet Euro (ie. built the Porsche meant it, no Emissions)

All my cars have been great fun and I learned a lot from each one. The 69 911T had dual 3 barrel down draft Weber Carbs. They were a bitch to sync, but there is nothing like the responsiveness of and individual throttle bodie per cylinder. Look at motorcycles. It was a pure drivers vehicle, you felt and experienced everything. These cars were meant to be driven. Mine had 130k on the clock and saw redline everyday I drove it. Redline was 6200 RPM, I installed a 7200 rev limiter and often hit that limit. These cars had points type ignition so a rev limiter was an aftermarket distributor rotor with a spring, low tech but effective.

In stock form the Euro Carrera was 231Hp 10.3/1 compression with 0-60 times about 5.7 seconds. Not bad for a 25 year old car. Mine breaths a little better now with 225 RWHp and I can still do 26 MPH on the highway.

I'm a car guy. I like lots of cars. I once owned a 87 Fiero GT (for 3 weeks).
