Chevy Sonic?!?!
This thing should be hitting the market in about a year, I planned on keeping the fit for a long time, but this cars got me thinking. It has everything I love about the fit with factory turbo power and better MPG.

I do like the Sonic, alot and I couldn't agree more about the power it puts out, 138 hp. Imagine the Fit with another 20 hp and I'm not too sure about the torque difference but I'm sure its noticeable. Not sure about the mileage but I know this, our cars achieve MORE than advertised, so we'll see about the Sonic. The one thing that's an unknown is this, reliablity, that takes time to establish.
I like how the sedan looks, something that blows the Fiesta sedan away, not even close there. A little thing I heard about this car too is this, the Corvette team was responsible for suspension tuning and I'm sure that doesn't hurt at all!

Chevrolet Sonic models are powered by efficient, power-dense, small-displacement engines, including the Ecotec 1.4L turbo and the Ecotec 1.8L – the same engines used in the new Chevrolet Cruze. Three transmissions are available: a five-speed manual and six-speed automatic with the 1.8L and a six-speed manual with the 1.4L turbo.
The Ecotec 1.4L turbo’s power ratings are estimated at 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb.-ft. of torque (200 Nm) between 1,850 rpm and 4,900 rpm. The wide rpm range for the maximum torque – a specific trait of turbocharged engines – helps the engine deliver a better driving experience and performance. Premium design elements give the engine world-class smoothness and durability. Features include:

- Chain-driven cams
- Roller-finger camshaft followers

- Variable-flow oil pump
- Electronically controlled thermostat.
The only thing I don't like, but hopefully there will be aftermarket adapters for T3 or T4 flange turbines..
The 1.4L’s turbocharger is integrated within the exhaust manifold

I'm sure aftermmarket turbo flanges will become available. My srt-4 was the same way and it didn't take long for big turbo kits to hit the market. Not sure about modding a GDI engine but just from stock standpoint i'm very excited. More power, torque, better mpg and 6spd manual. I'm definetly gonna take one for a testdrive when I get back from my upcoming deployment

Good point!
And GDI is really cool stuff. Multiple injections per combustion event FTW!

I'm probably the first one that doesn't like it.... Looks like a redesigned Aveo.... Personately, i would wait a couple of years before i buy one just to make sure it's not another POS Chevy!! :P Just like every new cars!
Marko!!
P.S. Just like i was thinking.... Aveo 3.0! -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrol...11.E2.80.93.29
I'm betting 10$ it's gonna be another POS!! :P

Well at the very least the Sonic is not a Daewoo in drag like the Aveo..
Second this one seems to have some balls with the 1.4T unlike the Aveo, third allegedly the corvette team got to do the suspension work for the Sonic.
But over all you are right, this is not an awe inspiring car from the outside.

This is a redesigned Aveo - just like the Cavalier became the Cobalt. In fact, when the Sonic goes on sale it'll be badged an Aveo everywhere but in the US. So, this is essentially the Aveo with a turbo option.
"The Chevrolet Sonic Z-Spec Concept was shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 10, 2011. This North American concept showcases a family of factory-engineered accessories and the best of the aftermarket under a single design theme. The Sonic will be sold outside North America as the Chevrolet Aveo. (01/11/2011)" From http://gm.wieck.com/
I threw up a little in my mouth when I test drove a previous generation Aveo (even if this new Sonic won't simply be a rebadged Daewoo) back before I ended up with the my 07 GD... I'd be hesitant about any econobox coming from Chevy, at least let the reliability long term show for it before making a decision. And honestly, the whole "factory turbo makes this tempting to me" is probably exactly what GM's marketing department is counting on - for people to trade their Fits, Yaris, Versa, etc. for one these on a whim because of boost/more fun factor, etc. and then when reliability reports come out we'll see the quality is inferior even if it puts down more impressive numbers than a factory Honda Fit.
So, I vote 'No'. my .02 cents.

You can actually glimpse...

If it's the same basic 1.4L that's in the current Cruze, which I'm sure it is, just with a few more ponies, it's a piece of junk. It's poorly balanced, sounds thrashy as hell, and paired to a terrible manual trans that feels like it was built by someone who had seen pictures of a manual transmission assembly, but hadn't BUILT one before. While it's better than an old Cavvie, I'd take the L15 and 5MT over it in a heartbeat. Test drove a Cruze for all of 5 minutes, then turned around before I'd have to vomit. Told the salesman never to bother calling. The car itself wasn't bad, but the domestics are still way behind in quality- sad- Mark W.

Domestics are better at producing V8 then little 4 bangers!!! The engine in the Sonic is a 1.4l ECOtec that is a GM gen 1 engine... Think a little updated 1.4 liter variant of an Aveo Engine!! so it's sure it is not a smooth engine... GM's 4 cyl. engines never were smooth... not even an ECOtec! Torquey for sure but not smooth!!

Ugh really?
I hate that coffee grinder feeling and sound that comes with the other Ecotecs. Same goes for the VQ35 in the early 350Z's.
You can feel the buzz in the clutch pedal... Pair that with a chunky shifter and you have a recipe for disappointment.

Tough crowd here!
Who's actually making the car? Who's engine is it and where's it assembled? That's the problem with stuff like this, a miss-mash of parts that hopefully work together. Speaking of that, who's trans are they using? LSD?
I've got questions...you guys got answers?
BTW, the comments about the Cruze are a bit harsh IMO, that's a really sharp car and from what I've seen, the interior is really nice lookin'....we talkin' about the same car here?

I like its styling and from the pictures the quality of the interior looks good. I'm really liking this Sonic. I just hope it will not end up like the Fiesta... I remembered when the Fiesta is just being introduce, everyone in here was like "Wow" and seems like the Fiesta is better than out Fit's but when it is finally available for sale. A lot of comment seems different... from positive to negative lol! I also went so see a Fiesta when I went to a Ford dealership and all I can say is I wouldn't even bother test driving it. All I have to do is look at the back seat :D.
