using Honda filter on non-Hondas
using Honda filter on non-Hondas
Yup, just as the title says... my goal is to use the OEM Honda filter on non-Hondas.
Why? cause in my insane quest for efficiency/costs savings... I ordered a 30 pk of oil filters from Bernardi Honda. S&H is practically free, since I ordered a few other things which costs as much in S&H with or without the oil filters (I think I hit one of their shipping cost limits).
I should be getting the order tomorrow.
For myself, my first two oil changes took about 4 months each... meaning it would've taken me 10 years to finish that 30 pk. But wait... this current cycle is up to 5 months now! Meaning, it would take even longer (12.5 years).
Now, that's a long time for me to be storing much of anything. So, I've been trying to figure out ways to use it up quicker.
Firstly... my friend's fiancee and his father own CRVs, which use the same filter. He's not a big fan of the idea of holding onto 15 filter cans either... so I told him, I can hold on to them and he can "buy" as we go.
Then today, on my way home... an idea struck me. Most 3rd party parts have a range of compatible car models... which means, there might be other cars/trucks that use this size filter.
Off to Fram's site for some cross reference checks.
So far... of the vehicles I know of (that people around me own)... only the Nissan Pathfinder uses it. Most of my brother-in-law's family have Toyotas, so too, do most of my family in California... Toyotas use a different size (WHAT A BUST!!!).
In any case, the point of this thread is to get some takes on using the Honda Filter on non-Hondas.
I think it should be perfectly fine, since it supposed to be just re-branded Fram or Filtech filters, right?

i dont see a problem other than if you have some warranty repair the manufacturer might point out that the filter was the root cause (cheap shot).
considering aftermarket filters are compatible across manufacturers there's no problem.
