VW Rabbit Impressions
VW Rabbit Impressions
I did a thread on the Versa, so I might as well take a second to talk about the Rabbit that I test drove yesterday.
The first thing I'd have to praise about the Rabbit is how well equipped it is for a vehicle with an MSRP of 20,990 (for the 5-door). It comes standard with:
- 6 airbags
- 4-wheel disc brakes (front ventilated)
- ABS
- Traction Control!
- 10 Speakers
- Auto up and down windows (all four)
- Driver and front passenger seats go up and down
This is just a few of the things that come standard on this car. It's amazing for such a low starting price.
My comfort level was quite good for being 6'7". The seat travel is amazing. This was the first car I've ever sat in where I didn't need to put the seat the whole way to the back. The wheel tilts and telescopes which allows you to find the perfect seating position.
The ride was really quiet and smooth. The car is very well put together and the underside is completely sealed with a long sheet of steel, which I'm guessing helps cut down on road noise. The manual transmission was great, as you would expect from a VW. The steering was great, especially on the highway. The engine has plenty of power and has a really nice growl to it. One area of concern with me would be the fuel economy of the 5 cylinder engine. The EPA ratings are quite low (22/30) but from what I gather people are doing much better than that. If I could average close to what I get in my Accord (27/32) I would be happy.
The warranty is quite good as well. 4 years, 80,000 km and a 12 year unlimited km anti-corrosion warranty which is important up here in Canada with all the salt used on the roads in the winter time.
I could see myself buying one of these, although I'd prefer the financing rates to be lower. Maybe they will drop a point or two in the spring.
Thoughts?

Before any Americans say that it's expensive - do note that the Canadian Fit Sport MSRP is $20,780 CAD. That's $200 less than the Rabbit
