Seems the next generation Mazda2 maybe sold in the USA as a Toyota?


Toyota to get a rebadged version of the Mazda2

 

Considering its competition is the Yaris, I can only assume that they will either ditch the Yaris with a name-change, or this will be the same car in two different trim levels like the Fr-s/br-z. I hope this isn't the beginning of a lot of model sharing in the industry with companies that don't have equity in each other.

 

Maybe a Scion since the XD and XB are going bye, bye. Mazda was thinking of not releasing the next generation Mazda2 in the USA so now it will most likely.

Incidentally, that same site is saying the xB and xD are getting next gen versions and that the Matrix is getting dropped in the US. Sounds nothing more than rumor though.

 

Another article said that it might be the 2015 Yaris replacement which makes sense to help reduce cost to keep the price down. Either way Mazda is hurting financially and needs the sales.
