DIY - 'Sort of' Door Sill Trim

Hello All,

Thought I would share my recent install. Probably a love or hate thing for some.. I just got my fit a little over a week ago. 2015 Red LX 6spd. I never really researched the accessories, I simply loved the car I saw in the dealer lot. So I didn't realize there is an optional door sill guard... When I noticed the amount of red paint exposed to feet entering the vehicle I decided to research, only to find out the pricey option.

I had these made at a local decal shop. It's not your normal vinyl. This is s special floor vinyl over the top of a regular black vinyl, making them (hopefully) incredibly durable.

At this point:
  • I'm curious to see what red would have looked like
  • If they could have put the 'Fit' logo between the layers, in red
  • If I should have gone even wider in the door frame.
  • durability.
In person I think they look amazing and they will for sure be very functional.

Please ignore my dirty floorboards. It's been raining on and off here since the day I got my car.

Kudos to FF members like you who share new mods!

It looks great and something that Honda should install as OEM for future Fits. The expensive, fancy stuff just costs more but both do exactly the same thing.

Am sure you'll have a bunch of FF's following your lead!!!:

Pricing

Thanks for the complements.

I should have added.. These cost me about $35. I would have happily made them myself if it had been only a single layer of vinyl. The semi clear floor layer was the part that made me put the ball back in their court. I also didn't mind paying a little more since it was their idea to use the dual layer, measure the car, and save a repeatable drawing in their system.

A major plus side is that I can call them anytime and refresh mine within 48 hours. I believe the hard layer is strong enough it would likely take something razor sharp or something hitting hard enough to dent the car if I wanted to damage it.

OP - Outstanding job! Very clean looking!

I'm planning on trying plastic dip on my door sills in the future. Might even try it out on the top of the rear bumper.

Very nice- looks great with the Milano Red--
did you also get a layer for the bumper near the back hatch? The "bumper guard" Honda sells is basically a strip of black 3M adhesive with a gritty texture (friction tape)--not a nice thick piece of rubber you see on some cars.

I like it. I've been trying to decide what to do with that area before they get scratched up.
Were the two layers bonded together, or did you install the bottom layer and then the top layer on top of it?
Thanks for the idea!

I am thinking about having them try to mimic the Honda part. The online prices are pretty competitive in my opinion though, being that it's such a focal point. The difficulty really grows when they are trying to match the radius of the hatch opening, then wrap over the chamfered edge and follow the radius of the rear bumper. Basically a rectangle isn't going to cut it. I wouldn't mind buying the Honda piece and having them copy the shape, then maybe widen it a little. This car will be hauling cycling gear for the next few years but I also want it looking good the entire time.

They somehow put the two together perfectly. I'm not sure if they are bonded with anything other than the adhesive that's already on the back. After putting them together they cut the corner radius's. I think the radius's are key to durability.

Thanks All!

Of course, this is an upgrade you could wait to install until the day before you sell the car, and it would look as good as it does in your picture now. It is not like a cargo tray, or all weather floor matts, that keep your interior clean and protected. These stick to your car and don't come off easily for inspection. They do look nice however. Now if you could come up with something to protect the bottom of the interior doors, where my foot seems to alway's rub against and leaves streaks in the door panel, that would be something!
