Unhappy Why condense threads?

I am wondering why the site decided to condense certain threads. I had started a thread in the Shoes section for people to post pics of their stock height ride with new rims on it. I thought this would help people out who are not yet ready to lower their ride.

Now that thread is combined with some other thread of all photos with new wheels - lowered and otherwise. It is currently at 39+ pages and there are not that many photos. It is very hard to sift through.

I would suggest not condensing threads unless the threads are the exact same.

I agree. It also makes it difficult to search for particular posts because it has now been asimilated by a post with a different title. Very annoying.

Maybe this thread will be condensed into one 'site suggestion' thread.

Yeah I agree, the rampant thread combining is a bit annoying to me. Personally I've always been of the philosophy to do as little moderation as possible, but that's just me.

I can see condensing a thread for photos... but at least take out the non photo chatter of that thread. And maybe leave up the original thread too. The last thing you want to do as a forum admin is frustrate people away from the site.

I completely agree with this. I was frustrated about my combined thread as well. It's nice to have photos all in one thread, but the original should be left for viewing for that specific purpose.

Maybe the answer to this is to have a combined thread with photos, but leave the original posts as they are. I liked having different photo posts that highlighted a specific look like my original post was stock suspension with new wheels. I thought this was more helpful then one super long thread of lots of photos.

Is there any way to bring back the original post and also have this combined one? Thanks admins.

There must be a way to have photo threads that address specific issues. I'm not interested in seeing every wheel photo but the threads to which I was subscribed all send me to the dreaded 50 page wheel photo pile.

i actually had a harder time finding things using the search since they have been condensed. Especiallt since i was searching the name of the thread, and it is no longer there. This might also delay the answering of questions, cause i know myself would probably check those threads less often. just my opinion

+1 oh yeah!!
I like to check subscribed threads in which there is useful comments within them.. through condensing, I tend not to like to scroll through tons of pages to look up info that used to be easy to find. I too don't check the threads that end up being like 10+ pages anymore, they're too generic to me.

I also find some difficulty using the global search function - it seems that it finds the search term in peoples signatures. Not only that, but the search sends you to the thread rather than the post. If the post is 40 some pages, youll never find your search term.

Condensing = hard to find info.

At the bottom left of the Advanced Search page, there is an option for the search to return individual posts.

However, I've often wanted to search for terms including short words and TLAs that are ignored.
