Ugh. I just found out that I am going to be brought in on a fact finding about a coworker using county fuel in his personal vehicle. I am not looking forward to this at all.

Hey, I was curious.... If the thief drives a hybrid and gets 40mpg and steals 10 gallons of fuel does he get the same penalty as a thief that steels 10 gallons of gas and drives a SUV @ 9mpg?

Theft is based on the value or quantity of what is stolen. Not what it yields after the fact.

I know you were being funny, but as hard as I tried I could only be serious. My mind has already kicked in to that mode. I don't know if I am going to get in trouble as well since I didn't report this when I caught the dude.

How long ago was it, and what proof did you have that it was against policy? Your only saving grace.

It was a couple of weeks ago and I don't know for sure what the policy is that deals with using county fuel for personal use, but he seemed to know it was wrong because he lied straight to my face about it. I told him that I better not see him doing it again, but someone else let the cat out of the bag about it and something else. The shitty part is that he out ranks me and is kind of my supervisor. People have lost their jobs over this kind of stuff. I really hope that he just gets suspended for this because he needs a wake up call.

If you keep your story straight, you should be fine. He will get fired though.
