They should adapt the front windshield from the current Civic, looking at how big and raked that 2009 Jazz's winshield is, it'll leave large spots of unwanted water droplets. Having water spots behind the rearview mirror is much better than a big blotch on the passenger side, it blocks me from seeing pedestrians.

 

We have a rear disk option hehe, Skunk2 makes it!

 

It's not the same because it's not warranted, and for almost 1G, that's big bucks. You can put turbo in every car but it won't be as reliable and warranted.

 

If I remember reading correctly, there's a secret compartment in the 09 Fit somewhere.

 

Standard dead pedal, armrest, and tilt/telescope wheel for US market

HID lighting option

Alcantera/Leather seat option (don't see that in this price range)

Heated seat option (same as above)

Most options available on base model and not unique to RS/Sport (like cruise control)

Accessory power point(s) in the cargo area

Opening/closing sunroof instead of large fixed glass panel

Diesel Engine option

Roof rails for rack mounts

Aftermarket JL Audio Stealthbox availability

I know some of the above are not typical econobox-class features but there's no reason a small car can't also be well appointed. I think a well-appointed Fit would be competition for the Mini, but with the reliability of a Honda. I'd consider one even if it pushed the car into the upper teens, price-wise.

 

That's the reason I was thinking about. In general, Honda doesn't really have to be innovative. They are selling because they own a reliable brand name as does Toyota. Other car makers need to give power, technology, and innovation. While it may look as if Honda is just tailing other makers, they are only going to give less and charge a higher price. Chevy Aveo sells for about 10K. A good bargain for power is a Dodge Neon Srt-4, I'm guessing around 19K.

What some people don't understand about the current Fit on sale is that it is based on a 2001 design. That's why it doesn't have a lot of options one might want/need, locking gas cap for one (this might fall under my theory that Honda can give you less but charge you more for the name).

But our voice must be heard. They better get it right after 8 years of R&D. And keep the price of the highest model Fit down below an average Civic.

 

Actually, the current Fit has quite a few options offered in Japan that arent offered here in the states. Fits elsewhere have a gas door that wont open unless the key is in the ignition for example. It doesnt have to do with the year the car was designed but more with the marketing strategy that US Honda is working with.

US Honda in addition to other manufacturers believe that people stateside dont want to pay the premium for options in lower model cars.

 

You realize if Honda did all this the Fit's price would jump probably $1500

 

More than that. And notice I mentioned "options". If you don't want those features in order to save $, don't order those options.

I realize this won't happen in the US where small cars aren't the benefit/necessity they are in Europe. In our bigger equals better culture, the constant comment is that a more expensive Fit would encroach on the Civic. For the same or even more money than a base Civic, I'd much rather have a 5-door Fit with leather, HID's, and more versatility than any new Civic available.

 

In regards to your suggestions:

1) That might be possible if we see a standard rear security cover for the cargo area behind the rear seats.

2) The new USDM Fit will (in my opinion!) probably be CVT only, with regular CVT on the low end model and a CVT-7 with paddle shifters on the possible Sport model.

3) Rear disc brakes might be standard on the Sport model, and rear drum brakes will be standard on the regular model.

 

For the USDM Fit to offer everything the Japanese counterpart has (except the no spare tire thing). Pretty please, Honda?

 

You know they should get rid of the automatic shifter lever that shifts straight up and down. Lots of other car makers have blocks in the shifter. I don't know how to explain it, like the Mazda3, so you can shift it to park and drive without looking down to make sure you didn't skip a gear. And maybe place it out of kicking area. I've had times when someone kicked their knees into the shifter and put it in neutral while driving.
